Sorry if this has been asked before… I just purchased RM2 and my files and notes seem to be syncing wirelessly without ever having set up connect. Am I missing something? I don’t see what the value of connect is…

Not an expert on this as I’m sure it could be a couple of things and I’m sure those more versed will provide additional context and answers. Yesterday I help set my Mom’s new account up and we added the desktop, mobile, and tablet app and pairing. I also recommend she gets “Connect Services” since it is only $2.99 a month due to how she plans to write and leverage her remarkable and Type Folio. I noticed when she set it up, she has the connect service for free until November of 2024. Based on your needs, there may not be value in getting the connect service and that should be ok. For others based on their needs, the few minor aspects it provides they may find useful in their workflow. I’m grandfathered in because I purchased the rM2 back in 2020 when it launched.

If I know right, you can sync your files as long as it does not remain unopened for more than 50 days (?) without connect. With connect, it has no limitation.

Files will sync wirelessly if they’ve been edited in the last 50 days. Once you go 50 days without editing a file, it will no longer sync to the cloud.

With Connect, you won’t have that limitation. That’s not the only advantage of Connect but it’s probably the main one. If you want to try Connect, it’s free for a year

Can't we use Google drive to sync files we need and bypass remarkable subscription requirements?

Kind of. The Google Drive integration lets you easily make copies of files from your google drive to see on your ReMarkable but it’s not actively syncing that file, it’s a copy. And if you want to update the file in drive, you can export the ReMarkable copy and import it into drive and delete the original, but it’s a several steps.

I’ve found that if I don’t edit a file for 50 days, I might need to reference it but I probably don’t need it changed. If you do need to edit it, I think you can make a copy in ReMarkable and delete the original

Do they get removed if not edited?

A trick I use to bypass the sync limit of 50 days is if I have a document over 50 days unopened and won’t sync just copy the file and the new one should sync
