I think the really interesting thing is that OneX is also jumping on the Oculink train (they kinda had to after GPD and Aya did).

Hopefully Valve will also get on next cache they get.

Which one do you think performs better gpd g1 or this onexgpu?

Same GPU, the only real difference would be which one runs cooler and quieter. Apparently G1 ran like a jet turbine, not sure if updates changed any of that as I wasn't following it (I'm more interested in OneDock to pair with any GPU I want...)

Yeah I'm waiting for Mr handtalker to send me that message on discord. I've also been looking at the ogre250

so expensive. pass

I really like the idea of a dedicated GPU when docked. Add a backup M.2 and it’s a winner. It has to “just work” though, that’s the major milestone.

and not be silly expensive

That's a lot of money for a heavily downclocked RX 7600, an SSD slot, and a power supply

What is the use case of this with a $599 initial crowdfunding price tag (and expected to be higher price at retail?)

Would it not make more sense just to buy a $600 more powerful laptop with a considerably stronger GPU?

Laptop are not handhelds. No laptop can give the handheld experience and the eGPU is meant to make the handheld usable at higher resolution.

Still, like i've been saying for the GPD G1, the only usecase where these eGPUs make sense is if you need the extreme portability.

Otherwise for 600$ your better getting a 40$ oculink to pcie adapter, a 50$ PSU and a 7800XT/4070 for 500/520$.
