I currently have 3200 MHZ CL16

Would I see 10-20% fps increase if I upgrade to 4000MHZ CL18?

I know my ram is definitely bottlenecking because on an extremely cpu and ram intensive game I get 90 fps on 3200 mhz but when I push it to 3600 MHZ I get 120 fps

I’m just wondering with the shitter timings of a CL18 would I see a significant difference between 4000mhz cl18 and 3600mhz c16 the way I do when I over clock my 3200 to 3600

If that makes sense.

You’d see it at 4400+ and definitely see it doing ddr5-7200+. 20% no, but you’d see the minimums pick up.

10% is about the threshold for noticing anything.

Meh, ram is cheap. Sells yours and rebuy it better 😅

3200cl16 is on the slow side. Whether it is bottlenecking or not, its easy to figure out. Just look at gpu utilisation (faster ram is only going to improve gpu util, not magically generate performance out of nowhere). Tbh you will mostly see improvements in minimum fps/1% lows. Also depends whether you wanna invest time tuning the ram or not. Easiest boost you can get (even on your current kit) is trying to run higher trefi value. Just make sure you stress test it thoroughly because you dont want your OS getting corrupted. For ddr4 i would look at either a dual rank 3600cl16 kit or a 4000cl16 kit depending on budget. Just make sure ram is running in gear 1 mode because at gear 2 you are likely to perform worse or on par with 3200cl16.

Yeah I agree with the minimum fps and maximum frametimes. 33.3% higher (I assume average) fps because of 12.5% faster RAM sounds implausible.

On one hand, there's a high probability that you won't experience such a significant increase in productivity at 4000, as the improvement from 3200 to 3600 could bring you close to a high watermark. On the other hand, for your i9-13900K setup with 3200 memory, if feasible, consider upgrading both the memory and the motherboard. You can obtain approximate information on 3dmark.com by exploring various configurations with your CPU. Here's an example of a filter:

You would have to jump all the way to DDR5 8000 to see that big of a gain in anything. (and most games still wouldn't be that much)

Not worth it unless you just want the best possible performance.

Its not worth it. If you're gonna buy new ram too should do a mobo swap to ddr5 and a high speed ddr5 kit if you want noticeable gains

3200MHz CL16 is exactly the line where you should be fine. I assume you have 2x8GB, right? Which game did you notice an improvment when pushing to 3600MHz? You may also gain/lose a few percent if you put them in the correct/wrong slots - look in your mainboard manual if you are unsure.

Any benchmark I have seen for the i9-13900k showed good improvements up to 3200MHz (CL16) but only little beyond that. The fastest DDR5 RAM in games is usually <10% faster than mediocre DDR4 RAM.

Regarding Tarkov I saw in detail tests with other CPUs where RAM speed did not really matter - well beyond 3200, there is a Reddit post from someone increasing it from 2133 which helped him a lot (in line with what I saw and wrote before).

Look for Samsung B-Die DDR4 if you want the pinnacle of DDR4 performance which is what you should be aiming for with that chip.

I use 4x 8GB B-DIE with a 13700k @ 3600 cl14 which does well

Not really, unless you do memory heavy/production stuff, I'm on 13700k and just switched from 3200CL16 two weeks ago to 4800CL18 (out of the same curiosity and I got it for cheap) which contributes almost nothing to games since I'm running on 1440p in the end it will be the GPU that is bottlenecking your system.

i9-13900k and 3.6Ghz RAM speed (assume it's breaking the 40 gigabyte per second speed easy) , 90 fps gaming ? sorry bro wt* bottleneck you're talking about !?

A 33% speed increase for a 12% memory bump makes no sense at all. Typically a 12% OC like your describing would not result in more than a 6% increase, and on average we're likely talking less than 4%. Hell, even going to DDR5 6000 should not get you a 33% performance pump. Typically 4000MT/s DDR4 has per lose timings, that makes it not much better than a 3600 kit with tight timings.

The game I play is not your average game. The devs aren’t the best and it’s extremely cpu and ram intensive. I could replicate and post YouTube video but I don’t think you care that much lol

I just don't see how any 12% RAM speed increase can cause more than a 12% gain. Bottlenecks shouldn't have this kind of effect.

Depends on the game.

If you play competitive low settings high fps CPU bound games, then yes, better ram usually does increase FPS.

I play PUBG which is notorious for seeing large FPS improvements related to RAM speed (see this video I made - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvjHCN-S8wU)
