We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data -- legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time (tm) ). That’s the same way I would have packaged it. And it appears to have arrived undamaged, right?
That's not a foot print. The patter exactly follows the bubbles in the envelope. It just got dirty, and dirty in such a way that the dirt only contacted the slightly raised bubbles, so it must have come into contact rather gently.
And seriously, your drive packaging is not crushed, wouldn't that have been you first hint that it had not been stepped on? Like, for comparison, put the drives back in the envelope, stomp on it with your foot, and compare the results.
Ssd no moving parts. You'll be fine.
Nah, that's not a footprint. It's dirt in the pattern of the bubble pattern underneath. Bet ya a buck.
This is a non issue. There are no moving parts, they weight basically nothing the likelihood that they got damaged is extremely low, like basically 0%
Did you expect them to ship it in a Pelican case?
