If the 3090/ti can I don't see why this can't

TLDR: It can.

I upgraded to a 6950xt to play at 4k above 60fps and it works great. Couldn't be happier. Even ray trace in most games, except a few of the heavy hitters.

Agreed. It’s such a great card.

Ayyy. Those few games that have like sun shadows for your characters nutsack only tend to run well :P

Yeah. The only games where it falls down a bit in RT are the NVIDIA sponsored games. Most games are fine though with average performance not far off the 3080 (~10% or so).

The 6950 XT is faster than the 3080 except (usually) with hardware RT enabled, not slower. The extra vram is also a significant advantage, though that will probably become more relevant over the next few years, and isn't a significant advantage yet except in some fairly rare situations.

really want to upgrade to a 4k 120+ hz monitor but god damn are they expensive. my 1440p 165hz va panel was $250 when i got it but the replacements looking closer to two times that now.

Why the fuck would it not?

It's not always well suited to doing 4k without upscaling, or without turning down some settings.

That being said, FSR upscaling works particularly well at 4k, and is very much worth using at that resolution, and the 6950 XT is particularly well suited to that. An RTX 4070, 4070 ti, 3080, 3080 ti (etc.) by contrast, is a lot more likely to have issues running at an (internal) resolution between 1440p and 2160p, because of having only 10 or 12GB of vram, especially with more demanding games released over the next few years.

upgraded to 6950 xt from my 6700 xt as I went 4k with oled 48i earlier this summer.
double the fps in games I play.
The 6700xt helds it own but also required adjusted settings to run fluently.

The price drop for the 6950 xt due to black friday week made it a great upgrade.
also selling the 6700xt makes it a resonable upgrade price/performance wise.

Great card for sure
