Hi, This might be a topic that gets asked a lot but I didn't see the answer in any of the threads I looked at until now.

I just got a used remarkable 1 that came without a pen, and have been looking at alternative pens for it (specifically the staedtler noris, the one that looks like a pencil). I've heard that the pen itself will work on RM1 but will the eraser function work? And if not, are there other good alternatives that have an eraser function, or did support for erasers come out in RM2?

I got only a vague answer from remarkable chat when I asked about backwards compatibility

The scribe pen works well I’ve heard. But it’s tricky to get outside of the USA.

Really? I got it super easy off Amazon in Canada! And for really cheap!

The pro with the eraser gets a little pricier but the option was there

No pen eraser works on rM1 without a hack and as they’re becoming rarer you would have to dig back some way on this forum to find it and it maybe out of date because of more recent updates. I’ve always used the eraser option in the menu at the side, on my rM1, and it becomes automatic very quickly. It’s actually quicker to lasso and erase that way then swivel your pen to rub out manually, once you’re practiced at it. I have a Boox tablet as well so I’m used to both.

Thanks! I ended up buying a pen without en eraser in the end, it seemed like a better solution than having a pen with an eraser that may or may not have worked (it's for a gift, and it was important for me that what I gave actually worked, ideally out of the box). We'll see at Christmas if it was a good decision or not 😅

Can recommend the Wacom EMR open as well as the Lamy EMR. I had the Lamy first but got tired of removing and replacing the cap every time I wanted to write. The Wacom is excellent.

I do have the hack installed to use the button for erase. It works great.

Wacom one is my favorite and I have had them all (LAMY, Kindle scribe premium, Remarkable Marker and Wacom). I use the Wacom daily with the button hack to use it as an eraser. the button is far better than flipping for the back. Scribe has both eraser and button and all I use is the button.

My order: Wacom One best > Kindle Scribe > Remarkable > Lamy

Lamy for me was too light, cap just gets in the way and button placement is poor for my hand. sold it on ebay

The white king right works just fine ,and the eraser works right out of the box. And it’s not the kind you have to press the button you actually flip it over and use the back part, like a real pencil. Another neat plus, it uses the original reMarkable nibs.
