Wonder if they will ever just block non-Chromium based browsers, you know, for the security and integrity of the site and all.

They wont unless it's a near total monopoly. They're always aiming for 10% gains every year for their investors.

The amount of people who use ad blockers is somewhere around 10% according to some articles, so I'm guessing this ad block push is to scoop up 10% more in ad revenue
