Not sure if I have a mental illness but boy howdy the unwarranted praise from adults always felt pandering and uncomfortable. Like forced imposter syndrome as a child.

Bingo. I think this one rings true regardless of mental health status. Kids can tell when it's not genuine.

I had to chuckle at this as I sat taking my meds after waking up at 2pm. Though I started to show signs at 10. Too bad it took so long to figure it out. https://miro.medium.com/v2/0*ZjYSm_q36J4KChdn

I started showing signs around 13-14, finally diagnosed at 33. Too bad indeed. I often wonder how my life would have turned out differently if my parents figured this out and took measures. It ended up working out for the most part so far, but damn did it take a long time.

I feel you. Didn't get a diagnosis til around 27, but nothing really done about it until 32 or 33 as well. It's really hard to not feel like a big chunk of your life was taken away, something I really struggle with. Still working a lot out at 43, so here's to hoping.

Exactly, it feels like something was taken. I found it helpful to grieve much like one would grieve the loss of a loved one. Just turned 40, and so much still left to figure out! But everything is looking better, even if just a little bit. I have a lot of hope.

That's a pretty good idea honestly. Thanks for a bit more insight.

Just because it's untapped doesn't mean it wasn't potential!

You have a very fair point.
