Lemmy go remind myself which 8 books i've read...

The Travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa 5/5 made me cry

Hitchikers Guide by Douglas Adams 4/5 made me laugh

The All-Consuming World by Kassandra Khaw 3/5 I got whiplash going from cringe paragraph to beautifully written paragraph throughout the whole book. Really enjoyed the setting and the story told.

La Gringa, for sure is one and I am still 3/4 through. All of the Tales of the City series (I read these at least yearly). Cartwheel (It was about that college girl that got charged with murder in Italy, but the book is set in Buenos Aires )

Top five would be most of the books I read this year, so it wouldn’t be very meaningful. I’ll go for top 2:

Tehanu by Ursula K Le Guin - fantasy, the fourth book of the Earthsea novels, dealing with gender discrimination.

The City and the City by China Mieville - not spoilering anything is hard. I’ll just say that it’s fantasy that feels like reality, you end up wondering if the City actually exists.

While being very different, they both leave you with an itch they don’t allow you to scratch. They give you a fantastical mirror to look at our own world together with some tough questions about what we accept and take for granted.
