...how many of you will stay? Personally, I wiped my Reddit history and deleted my account, so I'm definitely here to stay. I can see, however, that a number of people see Lemmy more as a distraction until the blackout is over. I wonder what that number would be.

I think there needs to be more communities so I can really leave reddit. Also not for sure about the messaging option on here.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

I'm intending to stay, barring poking in and seein if there's any extra niche communities that could fit at home here (there's a good few cat ones), I wiped my accounts and am currently waiting on a data request export. Once I can get that then I'm wiping my accounts and not turning back.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

Deleted my accounts and all post/comment history as well. I'm fully Lemmy only now.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

Just created an account to check out Lemmy. I'm not sure I fully understand the concept of this, but time will manage, I guess

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

Currently in the process of saving off my saved content. After that, I haven’t decided if I want to delete my account. Will probably stay off mobile, and give Lemmy/kbin/squabbles/tildes/Spyke some time to mature before dropping reddit entirely.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

I'm here for good. Yes it will take some time to get the lay of the land but, I'm already confident this will become a much better home for me.

If reddit gives in enough to make things viable going forward... I would still rather find another place to read and discuss. I haven't cut all ties with reddit and I may end up using it some in the future, but its days of being my main internet destination are over.

The Fediverse has a great deal of promise and so far I like Lemmy and kbin. I would like to help build and contribute to communities here in my areas of interest.

I will still use old.reddit with RES on my desktop, but Reddit is dead to me on my phone because the 1st party app is just unusable trash

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

I'm not so invested in Reddit that I'll feel the need to go back. Also the blackout is just the tip of the iceberg, being forced to use a shitty app because they won't let third parties in, lack of trust and the push for further monetization=advertising will push reddit into an unusable YouTube forum clone.

Nah, I'd rather stay here thanks.

I deleted my 8 year old reddit account because I never actually liked reddit in the first place, and only used it because the answers I was looking for in google, linked to reddit. I created a macro photography community here, and I'm staying here to moderate it. Please join! https://lemmy.world/c/macrophotography

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Wiped and deleted. I'm putting down roots.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

I will probably use both reddit and lemmy. But as long as I can't use a third party app for reddit, I will use it a lot less. And the better lemmy gets, the more I will use it vs reddit.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

I am liking my experience so far. I did a decade on Reddit and feel like I got the full experience (including moderating a subreddit big enough to have front page problems). I was already a bit tired of it when I got called a Nazi like 30 times for posting on a specific subreddit a few times. This new enshittification kinda clenched that I want to move to a different place. Not sure if it’s Lemmy or not, but I’m trying it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

This place feel so much better. The only downside is the user base isn't here yet. Let's hope many more people move over.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

I will delete my account after the third party apps stop working. I am still kind of hoping for that to not happen I guess... But either way won't be using reddit

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

I might use reddit on my PC but will never use it on my other devices after June 30th. If the Reddit Enhancement Suite gets ruined I will ditch it completely for Lemmy.

I'm staying. Feels more like how Reddit was at the beginning and how it should've stayed.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

It feels weird honestly as my usage of Reddit didn't really have me thinking about how Reddit was run. Understanding what's wrong with it now though, I see the need to have a proper alternative to it that's actually community-driven. While I wish for better synergy in this platform (which might come in one form or another), this does give me the feeling of the old IRC days somewhat where there would be one server and an infinite amount of chats to join.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

If RIF goes, I don't see myself spending any meaningful time on reddit. We'll see if I stick around here.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

There wasn't much to Reddit when it first started. Users built it over the years, including myself. I'd love to see Lemmy do the same, but it'll take work and commitment. Should it happen to become as large, I do wonder if it will eventually face the same woes as Reddit.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

It shouldn't, provided people don't just pile into single instances and spread themselves out.

Also Support your local instance provider.. ask them if they have a patron or something you can donate to. These servers aren't cheap to run, and the more people and on an instance, the more money it takes to keep up on the upkeep.

In the end due to the lack of ads, someone must front the costs, and with no angel investors (I mean I don't want angel investors all over my fediverse, do you?) it's gotta be us.

[–] socialjusticewizard 2 points 2 years ago

Haven't decided yet if I'll stay, or get rid of this type of social media entirely. We'll see. Not going back to Reddit though, I think.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

I'll stay. I've been looking for a reason to move off reddit for a long time. But there didn't seem to be a non political based exodus, until now. The TD stuff and voat seemed too political charged and only people of a certain political leaning left. As a result voat and the others were just all about American politics. This feels much more across the board, and so far I'm loving the Lemmy community.

[–] albertval 2 points 2 years ago

I'm staying

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Will definitely stay, Reddit account is deleted!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Planning on sticking around! I'm losing RiF and Jerboa seems to work well enough; hopefully it continues to improve as the platform continues to get more popular. I'll likely still check on Reddit for certain communities as they develop here, but otherwise I'm digging Lemmy and would love to see it grow!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

I haven't deleted my account yet, but I'm in no hurry to go back. I'll go back if I see some change (in any case I'll also be here, it's cozy)

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

I'm here forever. Already wiped all my comments and deleted my 8 year old reddit account so theres no reason to go back.

Outside of some issues joining various instances, I've been pretty happy with Lemmy so far.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

I like Lemmy, but if Reddit came to terms and reverts it's idiocy and allows Apollo to keep running, I would probably start using Reddit again. Until then, they can burn in hell.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Yeah I'm staying. It's been nice to have real interaction with other posters again.
