Warhammer 40k

A community dedicated to the universe of Warhammer 40k, a tabletop setting in the far, distant future.

This is a general community for 40k miniatures, art, lore discussion, and gameplay discussion.

Rules

  1. Keep it civil.
  2. No memeposts/shitposts. Memes are great but direct them to grimdank.
  3. Please mark any posts containing realistic nudity or realistic excessive gore/violence as NSFW; this rule mainly applies to cosplay and realistic drawings rather than miniatures. Being that 40k is inherently violent, this is a judgement call, and mods may occasionally request posters add tags.
  4. No political or social cause agenda pushing.

Title says it, I’m so happy that there is a 40k community on Lemmy. I don’t paint or play the table top but I love the lore and the books and I’ve spent a few years lurking on the Reddit sub enjoying looking at armys. Seeing everyone’s painting abilities is genuinely wonderful. The skill and creativity on display makes me smile. I will go ahead and fade back into upvoting every mini I see now.

This is definitely scratching the reddit itch for me, I'm an involuntary refugee since they shut down RIF and it's the only way I accessed reddit for over a decade. The official app was such garbage - awful UI, full of ads.

Glad to be able to participate in the hobby community, which really is one of the few things that kept me on reddit over the years

Me too! Also, what are your top recommendations for books to read?

I loved the Ahriman Books, there is also a great Audiobook for them on Audible. Otherwise the Ciaphas Cain Books are great, even though they get a bit repetitive after a while. If you want some Space Marine Action I can recommend the Uriel Ventris Books, even though they sometimes use a bit too much "For Courage and honour!" Also the Infinite and the Divine is just fun

Can’t go wrong with the Horus Heresy series. My intro, like many was the blue boys, specifically Nightbringer.

I'm happy there is one too. I'm hoping more people join Lemmy so more communities are active. Been reading the Horus Heresy series and after some difficulty getting through False Gods, I'm up to Fulgrim.

I wish any of my other hobby communities were this active.

I'm glad also. Reddit is run by heretics.

It is, and not the fun ones.

Absolutely! I am a diehard member of the "Luetin sleep club" but don't have the time or finances to do more than gaze through that window into the hobby. I'm so glad to have you all here and I hope you all know I find "the hobby" more admirable than weird! Keep up the good fight!

Agreed, glad to have a safe haven to obsess over mini's with!
