I think they will follow the US Iraq/Afghanistan playbook....

Go in, kill a bunch of people until they feel better, then wonder how they can get disengaged... end up making the gaza strip smaller, with bigger better walls, deeper tunnel defense....

I thought the plan was immediate violent revenge? Gaza has been under siege since 2007 and if it ever seemed likely that it was all part of a grand strategy that could some day end in peace, that time is long past.

I think Gaza was quiet enough that the politicians more or less thought it was a solved problem, that's why most of the military was in the west bank. The current focus has been on west bank expansion and displacement.

Now that there is a good political emergency I expect the opportunity will be used to empty the north side of Gaza, and increase the depth of the permitter walls. Shrinking Gaza into the smallest possible size to house the occupants.

But the real benefit of the current emergency is it can be used to accelerate west bank settlement and relocation efforts.

The plan was a fascist PM needed an excuse to clamp down after the people were rebelling against his power play.

It kind of seems like there may not be a post-war Gaza if things keep going like they are.

Israel has stated they are going to make a hard border with Gaza & quit dealing with the Palestinians at all.
