Not to turn this into a conversation about whether UB is good or not....let's assume we're all ok with EDH-legal UB cards like LOTR, 40k etc. because we have no choice anyway:

Seeing these LOTR spoilers, I see cards that are pretty good and think "that totally would fit in with my < deck x > deck" - but then always catch myself for thinking how odd it would be to immediately pull out Frodo or Gandalf or one of the other main LOTR characters in a deck that is otherwise 100% MTG IP. It's somewhat immersion-breaking, which I know is strange for a catch-all format like EDH.

I have no problem with the set overall though, and might want to even build a LOTR commander...in which case I'd try to use 100% in-set cards. But don't want to mix any of it with regular MTG IP cards.

Does anyone else feel this way?

Anyway - just saw there was EDH on lemmy, and thought I'd get the conversation started with what was on the top of my head!

Yes, especially with LOTR I think they fit the magic IP very well. I'm not looking for specific cards currently, but I won't exclude them.

I still hate the fact that TWD, WH40k and other UBs exist but when I played against them I realized it doesn't feel as awkward as I assumed. I'm fine with them

Honestly my bigger issue is with the universe beyond border and badge at the bottom. I like my cards to be uniform, for example I only use retro frames in my 100% retro deck.

I bought a LOTR precon, that will be the only deck I include these cards in and I won't be using any non UB cards in that deck.
