Originally established by moderators of r/Philippines as a short term Reddit alternative in response to the blackouts, it quickly took on a life of its own and now operates as a permanent separate community.
Members refer to themselves as either "lemmings", "lemons", or the few punny titles with an interesting backstory ("sinuka ng Reddit") such as "phlemmys" and "phlemmings".
The official mascot is a lemming (not a hamster!) dressed in barong tagalog and salakot named "Philemon" โ a combination of Philippines and lemon, while also inspired by the Cebuano folk song "Si Pilemon" and a Yoyoy Villame hit called "Si Felimon".
The mucus on the sidebar Philemon is deliberate. Phlegm... phlemmy... get it? ๐คช๐ฅด
