Cocktails, the libationary art!

A place for conversation about cocktails, ingredients, home mixology, the bar industry or liquor industry, glassware - this is not an exhaustive list. If you think it's in some way related to cocktails it's probably fine.

If you post something you didn't create give credit whenever possible.

Pictures and recipes are encouraged when posting a drink as a standalone post. Example of an ideal drink post:

We love garnishes.

Remember the code of conduct, keep it nice. In terms of cocktails- specific etiquette that might be different from other communities:

Mentioning your blog, insta, website, book or bar is allowed, yes. For now at least, we do allow self-promotion. If it gets out of hand this might change.

A good post with a drink you don't like is still a good post! Try not to conflate the drink and the post or poster. If someone has a relevant title, gorgeous photo and clearly formatted recipe of what you consider a truly terrible drink, a comment is more appropriate than a downvote.

On that topic: Polite critique/reviews of drinks (or posts, images, etc.) is allowed here. Encouraged , even. It's a good tool for improving your drinks and content. Really, just be nice.

As threatened, a post for the worst margaritas you have had.

As for me - one time we were returning to a hotel as the bar was closing, said "oh, you are closing?" and the guy behind the bar said "Oh, no, I can make you something, no problem!" Husband asks for beer, I request margarita. Employee gets out margarita mix & tequila, ok so far. Not great but he's closing I'm not gonna complain. Pours them in the shaker then gets out simple syrup and squirts it into the shaker for a solid 5 seconds - kept thinking he would stop, he did not stop, so much sugar. We paid because it was so nice of him to make us anything but it was absolutely undrinkable, literally 3/4 sugar. I can only guess maybe he was drunk himself.

I was at a hotel bar in Tampa once and ordered a spicy jalapeno margarita. Into the shaker went tequila, Mrs T's margarita mix, simple syrup (not a five second squirt, but still completely unnecessary) and a spoonful of CANNED DICED JALAPENOS. So it was too sweet, too salty, not tart enough, and barely spicy.

This cost $16.

I was in London and the bar I was at was advertising margaritas as the drink special. I love margaritas so I ordered one with salt. Now I should have realized my mistake here because the bartender goes “we don’t make margaritas with salt”. I explained it goes on the rim. They nod and come back a few minutes later with a slushy machine margarita and a salt shaker. “Sorry ma’am I couldn’t get the salt to stick to the rim so here is the salt if you want to try”. It was a pretty terrible margarita but I appreciate that they tried so very hard even though they didn’t understand the assignment.
