Fucking late-stage capitalism IS hostile design. A bench like this is just the smallest/finest example which makes it so noticeable because of its immediate negative effect. What people don’t notice is the macro level hostile design baked into our system. Real estate “investors” who are buying up property across the nation only to rent it out and price gouge together MUST BE STOPPED. We need fucking regulations, we need hard caps on %YOY increases in rent that are isolated from inflation.

We need laws that limit the number of houses a single rich cunt can own. We need laws that require affordable housing, with rent based on the average wage within a 30 mile radius or something.

There are so many fucking ways we could improve our system, but none of them benefit the rich subhumans in positions to effect these changes. We need to pry power away from the death grip that money has on it, which I just can’t see how to do, especially if we keep electing goddamn republicans.

City council:

The city doesn't want to actually prevent kids from rough sleeping, just market itself as if it is doing so.

It's corporate virtue signaling to encourage us not to think about the horrific consequences of the systems we live with.

But heaven forbid we try to create a society where that isn’t even a possibility

God damn its like an advertisement against hostile design its so blatant.

The kid laying down on top of the separation bars shows exactly how it prevents laying down.

Big oof.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

Possibly the advertisers did so intentionally?

No one should sleep on streets, that’s why we keep them awake

Ironic seeing as that bench has hostile design to prevent anyone from sleeping there. Couldn't just work on the reasons kids or anyone goes homeless and yknow provide people with housing. It's a human right for that, food, and Healthcare but we can't provide it bc the rich need their TaxCuts sigh

but at least they're gonna leave that ad there and force people to think about it, at least until the next hollywood blockbuster comes out
