My favourite producer is probably CrusherP, I really like their songs. Some of my favourites are Again, Echo and Biohazard. As for vocal synths, I'm a pretty big fan of Gumi and Solaria! I personally use SynthV for vocals if I want them, and it's pretty great that this option exists today. It's also nice that SynthV can sound really quite natural without too much tweaking.
I do. I've got a big interest in human-like AI, Android robotics, and HRI. So synthesized singing engines kinda overlap between that and my passion for (listening) music. However, this may also make me come from a bit different angle. I've never really been part of the Vocaloid communities, as I got more in it from a technical perspective.
It's not only Vocaloid btw, but also other software like SynthV and Sinsy. Besides, even Miku isn't technically Vocaloid anymore if you use the latest releases. I mainly like upbeat electronic music. It just seems to fit the best with synthesized voices.
I listen to a lot of different artists and many only a few songs. Overall, production quallity really matters to me. Even of the following list I skip songs regularily if they sound too much like a hobby-project or like the producer is still learning instead of a proffesionally produced song. Sadly, it seems the proffesional usage of such software has been dwindeling for ages now.
For this reason I also tend to skip Utau, the softwares ouput just isn't great even when proffesionally made voicebanks are used.
Some producers I like are (with some song I like between brackets):
- Hachioji-P (Sweet Devil)
- Satsuki Ga Tenkimori (Party Junky)
- Tripshots (Nebula)
- YZYX (Cosmonauts)
- Giga-P (Hibikase)
- YusukeKira (Fighter)
- TeddyLoid (Hatarakazu Ni Kuu (TeddyLoid Version), also like his non-Vocaloid stuff)
- Circus-P (Our Broken Anthem)
- Crusher-P (Athena)
As far as voicebanks are considered, I'm fine with any as long as they're well used. Hatsune Miku will always hold a special place in my heart. VY1, Gumi, Cyber Diva/Songman, Maika, Ruby, and Aleanor Forte are also pretty great.
I've been to a Miku Expo concert, back in 2020 just before COVID hit, mainly because I was curious to see the holograms in real life. It's cool technology and I did really enjoy it, but most video's online only show it's best side tbh. You'll regularily see the edges of the screen, from some angels it looks quite flat, and if 2 characters pass each other you can look trough them. Still, it's cool technology and pretty much the best holograms we have to date. Music is played live too for the most part, with only the Vocaloids being virtual and a band on stage. I say it's worth it if you're a fan or just curious, but at the same time I'm not sure if I would go a second time. I have no regrets going tho!
I love Vocaloid, I haven't found an active Lemmy community for it yet though. Some current favorites:
背徳の記憶 〜The Lost Memory〜 / SCL Project
エリカの憂い (Erica's Sorrow) / 香椎モイミ
It's hard to pick any one favorite! There's lots of great stuff out there, especially if you're willing to dive into untranslated work.
I'm not listening to vocaloid actively nor do I have more than just a few vocaloid songs in my 3000 song playlist but damn, do I love this song a lot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uD6Qzt1vjGM
Hell yea! Utsu-p is up on my list for sure, and I do like a lot of Kasane Teto covers and originals
