Don't do that! Milk is conductive. This could make you a serial killer!

[–] [email protected] 53 points 11 months ago

Or you would have a firewire πŸ€·πŸ½β€β™‚οΈ

[–] [email protected] 82 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Getting the order right is not an exact science. It's more of an UART.

I can't think of a pun good enough to respond with, good job

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

You people need to stop bit with the puns.

[–] [email protected] 68 points 11 months ago (7 children)

I’m showing my age here, but that’s likely dvi, and not serial.

9pin is much smaller and 25pin is significantly larger.

But despite my pedantic statement, the joke still stands. Well played.

Oh christ, DVI is old now.

[–] Ajen 19 points 11 months ago (1 children)

We're pretty much at the point where 2.5" SSDs are old...

[–] [email protected] 8 points 11 months ago

Does that mean my stash of IBM MicroDrives are finally going to be worth something?

[–] [email protected] 27 points 11 months ago

Same here, although I thought VGA. Dealt with too many parallel cables in the past and that didn't look wide enough.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Shhhh it's just a different flavor of cereal

[–] [email protected] 16 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Mmmmmm fruity loops of wire

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago

My favorite...

DVI-D uses TMDS, which is a serial protocol. So if you want to be really pedantic you could call it a serial port even though it's not RS232.

DVI-A also transmits metadata over a serial connection, but the video signal is parallel analog.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 11 months ago

Fair! Neat fact!

[–] captain_aggravated 9 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Yeah it's clearly a D-Sub connector, I'll allow the meme, the joke's funny.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 11 months ago

Looks a heck of a lot like the RS-485 serial cable I've got on my desk right now. Scale is hard to tell, not sure how big that bowl is.

Fun fact: That's not real milk. It's just Elmer's glue, they use it to stage the perfect shot.

Food marketing is fascinating

[–] [email protected] 9 points 11 months ago (1 children)

You ever seen the microwaved tampon trick?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 11 months ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 19 points 11 months ago (4 children)

I may have oversold it, to be honest, which is fair given what we're talking about.

Soak a tampon in water and microwave it for a few seconds. It'll give off loads of whispy steam for a long time. Then, just pop it behind that lovely roast chicken (cooked yesterday) or warming bowl of macaroni soup (ice cold) to make it look piping hot for the photo shoot.

[–] Imgonnatrythis 18 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It really should go without saying, but please only do this with an unused tampon.

"Oh, that steak looks well done and extra-rare!"

I remember being in like 4th grade and the teacher showing us a video about the tricks they use in advertising, how they carefully craft cheeseburgers, use spray deodorant on beverage glasses to make them look frosty. The thing that stuck in my mind was fake ice cream. Because ice cream would melt under the lights they actually use a substance similar to cookie dough, like shortening, flour, sugar etc. which is completely edible so you can film actors eating it, and I remember thinking "that doesn't sound half bad, actually."

[–] [email protected] 7 points 11 months ago

that's not oversold lol, thats interesting and cool (I think?)

[–] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago

Liking photography as much as I do, I really should look into all these tricks, huh

[–] [email protected] 35 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (2 children)

I think it is extremely controverserial.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 11 months ago

...I should've thought of that

The milk, the serial needs something to plug in

[–] [email protected] 8 points 11 months ago (1 children)

True, but what if there isn't enough milk to plug into? Or what if you have too much milk?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It will never be too much milk

[–] [email protected] 9 points 11 months ago (1 children)

This will be the result my friend:

Your house will overflow with milk!

[–] [email protected] 9 points 11 months ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 8 points 11 months ago

You seem to really like milk

[–] [email protected] 20 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Depends. Does the milk come from universal serial boobs?

[–] [email protected] 14 points 11 months ago

I've upgraded all of my bowls to Universal Serial Bowls (the C connector is specifically for cereal).

[–] [email protected] 7 points 11 months ago

It's up to you for your choice of connector, though it would be drier than usual

[–] [email protected] 18 points 11 months ago (3 children)

Put them in whatever order you like.

The bowl goes last.

I generally put the Serial in first, as its very reliable.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago

Good choice! I do the same

[–] [email protected] 11 points 11 months ago

RS-23ewwwww

[–] [email protected] 9 points 11 months ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago

Then it's a snack (I think?)

[–] [email protected] 7 points 11 months ago

Gotta take a waterfall approach

[–] [email protected] 7 points 11 months ago (1 children)

What's the bitrate of the milk?
