I would rather users depends on a third party service for stuff like video. These are volunteer services and hosting/transcoding videos is a heavy process that I donβt think Lemmy instances should really have to worry about

Yeah, working with a federated service like peertube seems like the best solution
why not just use imgur? reddit photos and videos suck in comparison anyways.
