Please avoid:

Harassment, hate speech, or other rude behaviors towards members of the community. If you don't think you would get away with saying something to someone's face in person, then you won't get away with it here.
Asking for help with a cartridge without providing the name of the cartridge in the title. The only exception is if you need help identifying the cartridge.
Asking questions that have already been answered in the sidebar or threads less than 6 months old. The search box is your friend.
Posting direct links to ROMs. Linking to ROM sites is fine, though linking to specific ROMs on those ROM sites is not ok. We have to follow the rules of the instance this community is hosted on.

Don't use the r4isdhc.com kernel from r4i-sdhc.com (lemmy.fmhy.ml)

A while ago, r4isdhc.com stopped paying for their domain so the site went down. This meant, however, that their kernel downloads ceased to exist.

r4i-sdhc.com (who I believe are probably the same company) started hosting a "new" version of the r4isdhc.com kernel for 2014+ carts, version 4.1b.

Good thing is that the kernel no longer has a timebomb! Bad thing is that it cannot launch games or homebrew...

This doesn't apply to any other cart previously sold by r4isdhc.com, only the 2014+ carts. Older carts do not use the same kernel.

If you have a 2014+ cart from r4isdhc.com and need the kernel for it, you have two options:

Download and install YSMenu from retrogamefan: https://gbatemp.net/threads/retrogamefan-updates-releases.267243/ - Unlike the stock kernel, YSMenu does not have a timebomb!
Download the old timebomb kernel, this will expire sometime in September 2024 so keep that in mind: flashcard-archive GitHub

Will this be fixed in the future, probably not, though it's something to be aware of :p

I thought YSMenu was supposed to bypass time bombs.

YSMenu does bypass the timebomb on supported carts, I'll edit the post to make this a wee bit clearer

It does, but the official kernel has a better UI and more features like rts (Real Time Save). It also has better support for ROM hacks, something YSMenu sometimes has issues with.

Basically, it would be better to have an untimebombed stock kernel than YSMenu.

Good advice. I think I planned on emailing them about this to see if they've got anything to say, so maybe I'll do that. Who knows, maybe they'll fix it.

I emailed them a while ago, no response 😅 Could have been a spam filter though as it was from my email domain
