As a reminder, in US law it's generally illegal to set up deathtraps to catch people who could only get in the trap by breaking the law.

"You did something illegal!" is not, in general, a justification for murder.

I wonder if Abbott will insist that the judiciary has no authority over the 80% of the barrier that is actually on the Mexican side of the border?

He'll simultaneously argue that the court doesn't have jurisdiction outside the US, but also that as Governor of Texas he does somehow

I wonder what the local Coast Guard has to say.

I can agree with that. Punishments should be proportionate to the crime. Killing should only be done in self-defense as a last resort.

I keep getting the idea that the boarder bullshit is actually about distraction to make people think this is a country people want to move to. Most of the people trying to get to the US are fleeing disasters we made by manipulating and meddling in foreign politics. Meanwhile, it is a distraction from the complete decline of living standards due to right wing corruption and their parasitic billionaire funding. The USA has been in massive decline for 99% of the population over the last 50 years.

Y'know I was firmly opposed to these buoys until I found out how fun "Rio Grande Buoy Border Barrier" is to say. Now I'm in the fence.
