Discord co-founder and CTO Stanislav Vishnevskiy wants you to know he thinks a lot about enshittification.

You don’t say.

With reports of an upcoming IPO and the news of his co-founder to hand leadership of the company over to a former Activision Blizzard executive, many Discord users are rightfully worried the platform is about to become, well, shit.

I’m sorry, about to…? As if the developments of the last 2 years weren’t a downward spiral with the game integrations, ads and garbage UI redesigns one after the next? Alright then.

You’re telling me that you don’t want UI elements randomly being moved around and redesigned as well as having more and more features that no one uses piled on until you can barely see the chat you were originally trying to have? Kids these days…

Empty words. Their actions tell a different story.

Wrong, this is a lie. Discord still fails to include a libre software license text file. We do not control it, anti-libre software. Do not let them scam you.

The best way you can combat Discord is to expose their scam, like this, to those around you. Then, teach them how to explain it. Make them a better teacher than you.

Not every single thing that's non-FOSS is enshittified, sometimes things cost A Lot of money to develop and those involved deserve to be paid. A good example of such software is Arturia's V Collection, a music/synthesiser program that requires access to original synths to recreate them. You own your license and can deregister it and sell your key to someone else.

Idk about the software, but when I was trying to apply for an internship over there the other intern told me that everything was basically manufactured in china when it came to hardware, while being a "made in home country" company

Libre software is sold. 'Open source' misses the point of libre software.

Yes, and? In Arturia's case, it would mean that their very expensive to produce software could be sold by a competitor.

Take pay before pushing slop no one asked for, skill issue.

When we do not control it, we cannot end its abuse.

You're very unpleasant. Have a nice day!

Discord's earned it.

I believe they'd prefer it to be free and open source software (FOSS). I'm not completely familiar with the terminology they used, but that's what I gathered.

No, 'open source' misses the point of libre software.

Never heard of web search?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

Well if he does anything to stop it, the board of directors will remove him.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

I doubt that.
