Be nice. Assume others have good intent (within reason).

Block or ignore posts, comments, and users that irritate you in some way rather than engaging. Report if they are actually breaking community rules.

Most 196 posts are memes, shitposts, cute images, or even just recent things that happened, etc. There is no real theme, but try to avoid posts that are very inflammatory, offensive, very low quality, or very "off topic".

Bigotry is not allowed, this includes (but is not limited to): Homophobia, Transphobia, Racism, Sexism, Abelism, Classism, or discrimination based on things like Ethnicity, Nationality, Language, or Religion.

Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

It's every American's patriotic duty to turn Dim Tool into Broken Tool.

Every day that passes where nobody kicks the fucking shit out of Tim Pool is a day where we stray further from God.

I want to take off his beanie hat to expose the tiny person hiding in his head, controlling his body.

If you're trying to hurt Tim Pool as much as possible all you need to do is pull off his safety beanie.

Who's the beefcake? Looks like a jacked Tom Selleck.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

someone else said Don Frye but idk if it was a joke or not

Can someone elaborate on the issues with this guy? My roommates are solidly left, compassionate greybeard punks, but I have occasionally seen Tim on a YouTube 'podcast' they watch. I'm vaguely aware of a scandal involving Russian money, but would appreciate more info before mentioning anything to them.

He's an alt-right pundit that tries to pretend he isn't right wing. But who only ever seems to have mild disagreements with right wing figures while he attacks the left. His Wikipedia article has a "Views" section that does a pretty good job illustrating why he is... Not great let's say.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

also he was one of the right wing influencers paid by russia to spread disinformation via tenet media

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 days ago

Yep. Even in the "best case" scenario where none of the "talent" at Tenet was being directly told what to say, the disinfo people being like "Hey big dog, love what you're doing. Here's an ungodly amount of money to keep doing it," isn't functionally any different. It only means they potentially didn't directly commit the crime of being an unregistered foreign agent or whatever the wording is.

They just found somebody prominent that was already saying most of what they wanted to pay someone directly to say and basically got them for a discount because they didn't need to convince them to say it.

Is this the same guy who is apparently so insecure about his hair loss that he's also trying to pretend he's not bald?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 days ago

You mean Timothy Daniel Pool? The same Timothy Daniel Pool that constantly wears a beanie even if it's wildly inappropriate to be doing so for wherever he is because he's insecure about his hair loss and viciously attacks anyone who even remotely insinuates that this is what's happening? That guy? Yeah pretty sure.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 3 days ago

If he’s showing up on podcasts it’s likely in a “debate” setting where the leftist hosts contend with his screwed up right wing politics and rhetoric. Whether giving him a platform like that is good for anything is up for debate in itself, but that’s probably what’s going on.

[–] brown567 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I don't even know who that is?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

A pathetic excuse for a man who can never be seen without a beanie covering his balding head because he isn't man enough to accept the fact that he's aging.

He was also unwittingly (so he claims) being paid to spread Russian propaganda.

So, a traitor, and also a pussy.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

There's nothing wrong with being insecure about balding, I wish people would focus on the bad things he actually does.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

Tomoe nage!

[–] Ghyste 2 points 4 days ago

I feel like throwing him would be too nice. I'd rather go for an old-fashioned beatdown.
