I did drugs before DARE. So, we knew they were full of shit. However it was the late 70s so we had legit caution about drugs that were administered with needles so avoided those... Then the cocaine era happened.

I remember learning about acid. If you do acid, you will freak out and stab a pencil through your eye.

Here's how you do drugs, but PLEASE DON'T DO DRUGS. But here's how anyway.

Like, if you're gonna tell me not to do something, why give me instructions on how to do said thing?

I had no idea how to free base or make a pipe out of a lightbulb until I saw that DARE video.

My dad would change the wording of Dare Tshirts with tipp-ex so that "dare to say no to drugs" would instead say "dare to say hi to roger" (in swedish) 😂

In middle school, my health class was all about how in high school, there'd be all these crazy sex and drug fueled parties and one day I turned to my friend and said "I cannot wait for high school".

One of my sociology professors was involved in a project to assess the effectiveness of DARE. She found that it was slightly effective with one group -- 8th grade boys.

Of course, her findings didn't fit the 80s narrative, so her study was shelved and the LAPD was happy.
