Biden said that appointing him was a mistake. I agree with both of you.
He probably thought he was being smart and appealing to "bipartisanship" as Merrick Garland was the Republicans "pick" when Obama was supposed to be allowed to replace Scalia. They literally said "you're just going to pick some far left judge instead of a respectable moderate like Garland!"
He called their bluff, picked Garland, then we got the McConnell song and dance of "it's an election year we need to wait for the people to decide!" Which naturally didn't apply to them literally as the 2020 election was underway...
Democrats need to stop trying to be the bigger person. Unfortunately the political playing field has devolved to the point that doing so always leads to the losing position.
Being optimistic about human nature has led us here. The reality is a lot of people are just shitty people.
I really think people like Biden are stuck in some time period where maybe Republicans could be trusted with some backdoor agreement. That time, if it ever existed, is dead and gone.
Republicans know they have the undying support of at least 35% of the voting population due to propaganda and stubbornness. They have no incentive whatsoever to go forward with whatever bullshit promises they make with a Democrat behind closed doors yet our "representatives" keep throwing Republicans bones thinking they'll come back and help us in turn.
Newt Gingrich got his politics entrenched in the GOP: My way, or go fuck yourself.
All it took was themselves being arrested. So what are they going to do about it? Wait for the public to do.... something?
