Harry Potter creator goes on rant about asexuals for some reason πŸ€·πŸ½β€β™‚οΈ

Because she is a homophobic piece of shit.

[–] [email protected] 38 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Sounds like Voldermor was inspired by her own persona

[–] [email protected] 37 points 2 weeks ago

More the Dursleys IMO. She hates the people who don't conform to her view of normality.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Homophobic? I thought she was just anti-trans.

Either way, I'm very curious how the LGBT community views a wholly trans-phobic shit stain that simultaneously claims to support the gay community. I know just such a person and would like some insight from the community itself.

Homophobic? I thought she was just anti-trans.

Well she sure is not an ally, or even neutral.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 weeks ago

In the HP fanfiction community many/most despise her.

Getting too much money reaaaaally fucks with your head. Becoming a billionaire should count as a brain injury.

[–] [email protected] 30 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Eh. It's more that you hear a lot about the nuts ones. Number 5 on the richest list is currently a guy named Bernard Arnault, who mostly French people know about, while the infamous Peter Thiel is at 129.

Same story here. Rowling may or may not have a full billion, but she's famous and good at getting rage views like this one.

I'll steelman her POV because it seems people are (rightly) confused.

Asexuals are requesting a day of recognition for what she sees as a negative-identity. Keep in mind, conservatives are often meritocratic.

It's like if there were a day for "coffee refrainers", for everyone who doesn't like drinking coffee. I'm sure if someone dunked on that day and the coffee refrainers, it'd all be in good spirits.

But if someone dunked on asexuality, I'm sure it'd cause a lot of upset and defensive argument, which implies more "merit" to asexuality.

While progressives can go "who cares, just leave em be", conservatives see all "non-deserved" attention as an affront to meritocracy, that needs to be squashed.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 2 weeks ago

This actually really helps me understand her perspective. I think she's wrong of course, and even harmful, but I appreciate the steelman.

[–] [email protected] 38 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I mean she has to be a troll at this point for attacking asexual people right? J.K. Trolling

Like, it's just people who don't like sex, I don't understand the hate? And I'm about as far from asexual as you can get.

[–] [email protected] 42 points 2 weeks ago

She hates asexual people for the same reason she hates transgender people, they're not conforming to her view of normality.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

There are a strange amount of people who seem to hate the idea of asexuality and this unfortunately includes people from all swaths of life like the LGBTQ+ community. I've seen too many gay people say hurtful, and frankly hypocritical, things along the lines of asexuality not existing and being more akin to a disease. It seems that while more people have become aware and accepting of homosexuality, they still don't understand asexuality and it scares them. Sad really. But luckily there are still lots of kind souls out there that will be accepting of anyone who's accepting in return. Maybe they can show everyone else the way...

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, I've seen it from hypersexual people who seem to have unprocessed shame and need to believe their own behaviour is justified by being a universal human trait. The existence of asexuality threatens that.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago

Honestly I don't understand it. Most likely don't. But it's also it's none of my business what consenting adults choose not to do.

Really the arguments are no different to any sexual interest. As long as the people are happy and consenting adults. I do not need to understand.

[–] [email protected] 37 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

The reason is simple: she's a bigot. She has been successful at pushing her transphobic agenda into UK law, and she will continue to move across the spectrum because hate only knows how to hate even when they succeed.

This is exactly the reason I'm shifting from just warning people that buying her shit is immoral so outright calling them bigots for supporting bigotry. If they don't want to be bigots they can stop giving her their goddamn money.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I support and share most of your opinions. She is a huge bigot and should be accountable for her actions. My only point is that we have kids and teenagers still consuming her books and products that are completely unaware of what is happening and shouldn't be called out because of that.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 weeks ago

While I don't disagree I think it's important to keep in mind that kids and teenagers aren't stupid - they are capable of understanding that you shouldn't allow a bad person to continue to be a bad person if you have a conversation about why what JKR is doing is bad. Most of the vocal pushback that I've experienced offline has actually come from teenagers.

The problem lies squarely with millennial parents who continue to buy books/movies/games/merch for themselves or their young children because of nostalgia. They are old enough to know better, and should be held responsible for their actions.

[–] [email protected] 35 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

How the actual fuck could asexuals offend you? smdh

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 weeks ago

It does make me wonder if JK is actually asexual herself, and feels shame about it. Like how men who claim that "being gay is a choice" often feel that way because they consciously forced themselves to be straight despite their attraction to other men.

[–] [email protected] 31 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You’d think this dumb cunt could just fuck off and enjoy her fortune, but no

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago

This is literally fun to these people. Foaming at the mouth gives them energy, it's all they can run on anymore. Vapid angst.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

What the hell does the bottom post even mean? Is she saying she prefers segregated bathrooms? I knew she is a TERF but she's apparently also racist?

[–] [email protected] 19 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

For a professional writer you'd think she would know that a quotation (even a fictional one) requires quotation marks around it to make it clear to the reader that it's not what you are saying but somebody else. Perhaps this makes more sense:

"Refusing to accept that people who don't like sex belong in the gay category is akin to wanting segregated bathrooms in the 1950s, John," as approximately a thousand gender activists will inform you once their hands stop literally shaking.

She's mocking the people who replied to her.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 weeks ago

Wow she really isn’t very good.

How were we so starved for something that we latched onto her baloney?

[–] Stillwater 4 points 2 weeks ago

I don't read it like a quote. She's telling John an opinion (sarcastically) and then letting him know the activists will inform him the same thing. It's not grammatically incorrect, just difficult to parse (which is still not the best writing).

Irony is that the entire Harry Potter series is like discriminating against people for who they are is wrong.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 2 weeks ago

To be fair, I'm pretty sure the slave race of house elves continue being slaves because "they love being slaves".

[–] [email protected] 20 points 2 weeks ago

What a hateful idiot lol that's all I can say

[–] [email protected] 18 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm ace and JK can go fuck herself

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 weeks ago

Well you’re not going to do it, what choice does she have?

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

She wrote a whole series about how bigotry is bad but in retrospect, it feels like she didn't really understand why bigotry is bad. She just needed her children's books to have a moral message and she made a very surface level parallel to the holocaust. Then years later, she showed her ignorance about the holocaust by denying that transgender people were a target.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Her main protagonist is a rich jock who grows up to be a cop. What did you expect?

[–] [email protected] 14 points 2 weeks ago

Did she get snubbed by someone who's ace or something? Asexuality is possibly the most inoffensive sexuality in existence.

Like, oh no.

They don't experience sexual attraction.

That means they're probably significantly less likely to objectify or assault you than someone who isn't ace. Isn't that a good thing for someone supposedly so concerned with being objectified and violated, Miss Rowling?

What a wildly brain-dead take from someone who loves claiming to be a feminist.

(Yes, I know she's not actually a feminist, but it's another piece of hypocrisy to throw on the pile)

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

lol says the person who hid behind initials because having her real name on cover would hurt her sales due to sexism.

Her? Appropriating a gender? Wow never ever /s

What a fraud

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 weeks ago

There are very few people that can turn my stomach up like this bitch.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 weeks ago

Average JKR disaster of an opinion

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

what fucking gave her the right to weigh in

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Her money and her blind fans who continue to enable her and ignore the fact that she is a horrible person.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago

Why doesn’t she write a book about whatever unimaginable horrific childhood trauma turned her into such a vile adult?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago

She's pathetic.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 weeks ago

The reason is the billionaire TERF glitch.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 weeks ago

Nowhere does it say fucking anything about oppression in the picture that she's losing her shit about here. It's something that she could've literally just scrolled past and gone on with her day. I'm so fucking sick of these people.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 weeks ago

Man, she sees a jpeg and her head explodes.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago

Bigot says bigot things

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago

"fake oppression" as she does her best to oppress them

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago

She's the Andrew Tate for old British women.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago

She's just a raging ball of hate.
