There's a catholic shrine near Hamilton Ontario that my elders used to like to visit. I forget the details because I always thought it was weird even when I was a kid. The shrine and church are centered on the remains of a missionary priest that was caught, tortured, cut up and burned by native people. The only thing left of him was a severed finger which is now housed there. For some reason, the older generation here in northern Ontario wanted to go see this shrine every year.
Our indigenous ancestors killed him .... and now indigenous people want to honor him.
Indigenous people can be just as weird as anyone else.
