So we have the numbers, when do we start using them to forcefully remove the fascists?

We had over 5k come out at our major city and there was zero local coverage. Only AP showed up.
Then you shoot video, and post it. We don't need permission from the media, we own the Internet, and the Internet is everywhere.
Ap surprisingly based then not bad
Not surprising. AP always reports what happened. Not saying they’re unbiased and don’t receive support from the ultra-wealthy, but them and Reuters are always reliable sources
Trump kicked them out of the press room for a reason, I suppose.
Yeah you know, doing some actual journalism
Exactly lol. What authoritarians fear the most. Other than a mob of the working class, eh.
The local coverage for my area was shit too. Disappointing.
I'm really disappointed that none of the articles I've seen have included any estimates for how many people turned out and where.
The massive systemic censorship continues!
Article in Utah claims only 6k attendees. Look at that picture and tell me if you think that's true.
Honestly, yea. 100% coverage is being fucked with to make things seem worse than they are but I doubt there are even 3,000 people in that photo. May well have been over 6,000 people there and I sure hope there was but the photo is not a gotcha.
Grab group of ten people, further away so they’re more dense, then count out ten of those are you mentally paste it around the photo. That will be 100 people. Then take that and do the same thing ten more times and you’ll get 1,000.
Everywhere else for sure was crushing it, and honestly I feel like even 6,000 is a pretty great turnout for Utah, no?
I get the theory of the counting, I guess I'm biasing because I understand the shape of that field. The picture is probably 5/8 the field that was packed.
Along with the elevation. It's really hard to picture except from direct above, as the field drops out significantly. I couldn't even see the speaker from my vantage.
Yea knowing just how big that field is, and it sounds like you were also there, really helps a a lot.
I saw some articles claiming a few hundred in my area, which isn't one of the largest but still a major city, so yeah, 6k is great
Yeah, this would be good to know for a number of reasons.
Even if it did, how did they count everyone? Are there some drone software capable of counting people in an area or in a picture?
You can make estimates based on crowd density and area. There are online tools for it.
National park service provided the numbers?
Fake news is there to ensure that we don't get real news lol
One local news story said we had about 8 - 10,000 in Denver CO. I just hope we can keep that momentum to change something soon.
Can anyone explain the purpose of these? I can’t remember republicans and trump in particular caring about what people and protesters think.
Democrats respond to protests but republicans don’t. What was the expressed goal of this protest?
Protests attract more people to your side, and each demonstration gets bigger. Politicians, especially conservative politicians, are cowards. They will start to get scared, and will react, positive and negative, but it will only hurt them, no matter what they do. More people will shift sides, or at least fall away from the dark side.
Experts say that it only takes about 3.5% of the population to hit a "tipping point," and become a trend that changes society. The high estimates for these demonstrations was about 5 million. 3.5% of our population of 335 million is about 12 million, so we are well on the way of reaching a tipping point.
Wait until the tariffed products from China hit the stores, and prices literally double in Walmart, Amazon, Best Buy, etc. He was elected to bring Biden's prices down, not double them. Protest numbers will grow enormously over this summer.
At some point, Luigi's trial will happen, and add another vector for protest.
Large protests like this have been going on forever, all over the world, for one reason - they work.
I asked the same thing elsewhere, and was given a wonderful answer:
In short; this isn’t for them. It’s for us.
I hope this is “we’re asking nicely” and a final warning to billionaires and the ruling class.
I’ve seen many of these massive protests throughout my life so I’m itching to just get to the part where we toss them out of their homes and light it up. They’ve gotten a million warnings.
It won't be the "final" warning, but we have reached the beginning of the end. The path ahead will not be smooth, and will likely get very, very ugly, but the bad guys never really win. Sooner or later they are all brought down, and it's usually extremely unpleasant for them.
Fair. However, I think what’s happening, or at least what I’m seeing a lot are people assuming- is that an uprising, or any from of act of revolution for that matter- would be met in the way it carried out in the past.
I don’t think any ground will be moved by dumping tea into a harbor, or setting barns on fire this time.
There now exist things like tactical missiles and satellite guided ordinances. I don’t think I’ll go down the way we have understood it to on the past.
And don’t misinterpret this to mean that I don’t wish the same thing, or agree- it’s just that when the idea is pressed against a more realistic modern day set of circumstances, I really don’t think it will play out the same as it once did.
I can think of a few immediate benefits of this sort of protest and some potential benefits.
Mainly this shows the populace they aren't alone, or taking crazy pills, or in some kind of Twilight Zone. The media easily makes it seem like these strong views, anti Trump, anti Musk, anti DOGE, pro Luigi, etc... are extremist or minority, or maybe that believe have some gentle disagreement with Trump but nothing major. That can make people feel hopeless and like there's no chance at things getting better, which discourages people from actually doing things to make things better. So this immediately provides some comfort and sanity to people, but it lays the groundwork to motivate people to do something more serious. Remember way back when the Tea Party movement was still considered fringe and extreme? Initially all that stuff was just protesting, all the way back to the Obama presidency. But in hindsight we can see how that laid the groundwork to embolden more serious action later which is at last coming to fruition for that movement. It's a long process, very similar to gardening, hence those phrases about "sowing the seeds of XYZ". For a long time the plant is completely non-functional, and then suddenly it abruptly bears fruit. But it does take continual prolonged watering.
You got an answer from another user here 5 hours ago. Why are you even here if you are skeptical of protesting in the first place? It's kind of the whole point this community exists. Did you get lost?
I’ve been getting real tired of a number of Lemmy posters complaining about Americans doing nothing and then shitting on anything we do.
I have a feeling this is only going to get more common as the movement grows. Especially since now we are getting a (little) bit of MSM coverage.
The haterz are useful idiots
Fucking bootlickers are the worst enemies of progress
“Get out of here you, this is an echo chamber!”
lol yup, definitely a troll. Nothing to see here, move along folks.
Is there an estimated total of people?
Closed out with 5 million.
Another post said 3 million
