The amount of people not checking the sidebar of communities before they post is fucking wild. Apparently getting some context before diving in is too much effort, or they just prefer learning the hard way.

Let me take a stab at explaining how the fediverse works.
The fediverse is a loose collection of communities with different rules and values that freely decide to share content with each other. These communities foster different opinions. The choice to freely associate with other communities is the antithesis to echo chambers, meaning we don't go around with an attitude of "that kind of thought doesn't happen here".
