Nah that scene did actually kind of make sense. The idea was not that he made the spin of the earth reverse, but that he flew so fast he himself went back in time (by going faster than light) making it look like the earth was going the other way.

That's not really how they show it though. The scene has him fly westward until the Earth appears to change direction, and then time reverses, but then it has him fly eastward a bunch before it starts turning the right way again. If it was just him moving really fast, that second part wouldn't have been there
Might just be him losing speed by accelerating the other way? But yeah sounds like it might not make that much sense then
