Like the Apache 2.0 license. Keep on improving Mistral! Hope they also improve their best performing model, because its still lacking behind Claude and ChatGPT (still good enough to cancel ChatGPT and switch to Le chat).

We need European providers for popular open source LLMs like Deepseek. Something like openrouter.ai but in Europe.

I'm all for supporting our EU businesses, but people should also be aware who are the investors behind some of these apps/softwares, etc. For instance, Microsoft invests in the company and more importantly Andreessen Horowitz (which backed the Trump campaign with millions and millions of USD).

Thanks for the info and phasing it with nuance!!

Anything else would be in danger of falling into the "Nirvana fallacy" category

I think realistically it’s going to be difficult to find something that ticks all boxes from a political, profit, investor, ceo way etc so at some point it’s about choosing which one is most important to you.

As it happens I moved over to Mistral a couple of weeks ago instead of gpt and it’s been really good for me so far.

At least they have their jurisdiction in Europe and not the US. If their investors have the access keys to our data is another question. But they'd need to explicitly mention this in their privacy policy.

Fully agree. My comment was more on the fact that we should really look deeper in some of these products so to have the full picture and make a transparent and fully informed decision. I am also using it (regrettably it's unrealistic to expect to be able to boycott 100% unless one opts to become a hermit and go live on top of a mountain) and I thin it's great.

Several weeks ago I took a very (very) brief moment to consider which model might be the least bad and settled on Mistral.

I think probably the only reason for that is that I don't know anything about them whereas I already hate google, meta, OpenAI, et cetera.

Should I stick with mistral for the time being or is there some other model I should be looking at ?

Not that I am aware of, I am sticking to Mistral too

AMDs open source offering is interesting. Will see how that goes.
