It's not just passing a budget.

Hardly any of the money is earmarked for anything. Which means trump gets a blank check and he can just stop funding lots of shit.

A shutdown is 100% better than this CR.

But the people that pay Schumer and the rest of the neoliberals don't want a shutdown. They want to pretend everything is fine so the market stops free falling.

Neoliberals are just enabling trump. We need to hit rock bottom, fuck a parachute.

House dems - including moderates - are actually quite pissed at schumer. They are actively talking about primarying him. There is a very real path to him getting ousted from senate leadership with the public adding to that pressure

Complete meltdown. Complete and utter meltdown on all text chains," said the member, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to offer sensitive details of members' internal conversations.

A senior House Democrat said "people are furious" and that some rank-and-file members have floated the idea of angrily marching onto the Senate floor in protest.

Others are talking openly about supporting primary challenges to senators who vote for the GOP spending bill

[....]

"People are PISSED," one House Democrat told Axios in a text message.

Several members — including moderates — have begun voicing support for a primary challenge to Schumer, floating Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.) as possible candidates, three House Democrats said.

One lawmaker even vowed at the House Democratic retreat to "write a check tonight" supporting Ocasio-Cortez, said the senior House Democrat

Another Democrat told Axios the ideation has gone a step further: "There is definitely a primary recruitment effort happening right now ... not just Schumer, but for everyone who votes no."

[...]

Said one member: "Folks are still working the phones tonight with their senators. We have not given up."

If cowardly, complicit Chuck doesn't like the pressure, he should retire.

I called my senators earlier, but (not having seen this post yet) I may not have been as clear as I should have been about cloture vs. the bill itself, whoops. I did additionally ask them to try to stop the other senators from voting for it and also to support removing Chuck Schumer as minority leader, though.

On a related note, does anybody know why Raphael Warnock only has two offices but manages to have a staffer actually answer the phone anyway, while Jon Ossoff has five offices but calls still end up getting kicked to voicemail? Is there a huge disparity in the number of calls the two different Senators get, for some reason?

Unsure, but I can at least tell you in good news both your senators have now come out as NOs on cloture after public pressure

Doesn't hurt to call about asking them to pressure others certainly

The title doesn't match the situation. The situation is that voting can't proceed until the debate is over. Democrats only have the power to keep everything in the debate phase before the vote phase starts.

It's not about voting for the bill but voting to end the debate phase.

I count voting for cloture (which is the vote to end the debate) as effectively voting for the bill itself here. That's why I said "tell them no on cloture and the bill itself" in the text body. Was starting to run out of words in the title. It's already quite long
