Metal is yet another example of them having the right idea a bit early, but making zero effort to involve others, so now there's the open multi-party standard and also their weird proprietary bullshit.
Mac gaming will never fucking happen. Windows gaming is a going concern, thanks to Valve and Wine. The closest the Mac came to relevance as a games platform was twenty fucking years ago, when they supported OpenGL at the height of generic RenderWare titles.
Iirc apple actually contributed a lot to the initial Vulkan Standard. It makes it even more baffling that they decided to remain with metal.
