RULES (updated 01/22/25)

  1. Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling. To be concise, disrespect is defined by escalation.
  2. Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible. You won't be punished for trying.
  3. Avoid controversial topics (politics or societal debates come to mind, though we are not saying not to talk about anything that resembles these). There's a guide in the protocol book offered as a mod model that can be used for that; it's vague until you realize it was made for things like the rule in question. At least four purple answers must apply to a "controversial" message for it to be allowed.
  4. Keep it clean and SFW: No illegal content or anything gross and inappropriate. A rule of thumb is if a recording of a conversation put on another platform would get someone a COPPA violation response, that exact exchange should be avoided when possible.
  5. No solicitation such as ads, promotional content, spam, surveys etc. The chart redirected to above applies to spam material as well, which is one of the reasons its wording is vague, as it applies to a few things. Again, a "spammy" message must be applicable to four purple answers before it's allowed.
  6. Respect privacy as well as truth: Don’t ask for or share any personal information or slander anyone. A rule of thumb is if something is enough info to go by that it "would be a copyright violation if the info was art" as another group put it, or that it alone can be used to narrow someone down to 150 physical humans (Dunbar's Number) or less, it's considered an excess breach of privacy. Slander is defined by intentional utilitarian misguidance at the expense (positive or negative) of a sentient entity. This often links back to or mixes with rule one, which implies, for example, that even something that is true can still amount to what slander is trying to achieve, and that will be looked down upon.

Hi. I’m new here. I’m really trying to be more happier and successful in life but there seems to be no end in sight regarding financial woes and my self hatred.

I’m just home hanging w my two very shy but cute foster cats.

I got my hair cut this week and all my coworkers complimented it today so I'm taking it as a win

My partner had to fly out of state this morning, and we're not used to being apart. In the eight years that we've been together, we've only been apart for a week (maybe) once. I miss her so much already. I can't wait for next week.

Further, we have four cats, two of which require medicine twice a day, and a bird which (for other reasons I've mentioned in a past weekly thread) also needs medicine multiple times a day. Usually we split the load of socializing with the animals and giving them their drugs, but with her gone for the week, it's all on me. I also have a 9-5 (thank God I WFH) to deal with. I'm feeling very overwhelmed and have felt like this all day.

I was able to keep it together up until my partner was out of view after going through TSA. As soon as she was out of view, I felt the tears coming on. I cried when I got to our car, and have done so a couple more times since being back home. Seeing our oldest and most attached cat notice that only I came through the door and "mom" wasn't with me about sent me into a spiral.

Luckily we plan on calling each other to fall asleep "together" which should help a bit. But damn, I didn't know it would be this hard.

Thanks for letting me vent a bit.

Stressful....And will be for the foreseeable future

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Sounds difficult do you wanna talk about it?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Honestly Thanks. But until the Cheeto and Muskrat are out of office I can't relax....for reasons I won't get into here.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

I get that. I'll pop the kettle on for you and make you a cuppa hope it helps

Things were going great until my job (which is located an hour away from me) terminated work from home due to political reasons (I'm in the US). But! My bday is this Saturday, so trying to be optimistic for that.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh crikey, are you going to look for other work?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

I really love my job, so I think I might end up breaking my lease to move closer

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago

Pretty good! Still settling in to my new workplace but I’m having fun so far and the work’s satisfying

I’m looking forward to doing summer things soon now that it’s getting warmer again :D

It’s alright! I’m in America right now, so the current political climate is kind of like an ever-lingering rain cloud over my head. To stay sane though, I am making the most of the simple joys of the weekend by playing video games with my bf!

Pretty good. Things are going well for me recently. I’m ready for the good times to keep coming and if they don’t, it’s fine.

[From the pile of ruins an hand covered in dust slowly raise, his bloody fingers close into a fist while a low growling voice says] :

"..i..it's Friday!"

Pretty great, actually.

Was recently diagnosed with Vitamin D deficiency (I hate being a night owl), and started supplementing. The change has been pretty drastic and welcomed.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I had that issue over ten years ago. I’m not really an outdoor person but moving from FL to TN and then to PA… in three years I didn’t know what was wrong with me. My vitamin D hit 11. I take 50,000 In once a week forever now, keeps it in the 60’s.

[–] loaf 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I’m glad you’re managing yours and, hopefully, everything is good now for you.

I’ve been a night owl my whole life, and always seem to forget that I’m kind of prone to it if I’m not paying attention. You’d think I would’ve learned after all this time lol.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

I was a night owl too growing up! But in high school I had marching band practice and got my sunshine then. I’m not sure if it’s moving to TN or my 30’s but I lived in Knoxville and after 6 months I was SO tired I would lay on the floor in my office at work to rest. It was three years later in PA where I got tested. At that point I was sleeping all weekend in bed.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 days ago

Well, before today it wasn't so great. However, payday was today, and I've got some time off work for about four days, and my birthday falls within the next few days as well!

So hopefully I'm past the lowest point of the week and it only goes up from here.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 days ago

Extremely long and exhausting.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 days ago

Can't keep most food down, although probably because I'm filled with shit. Regardless, time to get an ultrasound to make sure. I can keep down liquids so soup and hydration it is.

The kitten is being very cozy so that's going well. We think she's scaring mice so also good for her.

The thing growing on my jaw still scares me but that appointment is for the 13th. If the dentist doesn't cancel.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 days ago

Way too stressful and busy as I get a lot of tasks assigned to me at work that shouldn't be part of my job. But I'm the only full-time employee, so yeah, fun fun fun...

BUT for my freelance job I get to a coastal city all weekend to shoot some content AND get paid to have a good time and enjoy the weekend. Hotel and food is also paid for. Pretty exciting as it's my first time having this type of luxury for a freelance job and just the fact that this is possible makes me really appreciate the good things in life

Let’s see. The roof replacement that’s currently going on at my house is a mess because there are 2 project managers, each speaking different languages. I dumbly scratched my forehead such that everyone I see this week has said, “Ooh what happened there!?” Yesterday, after a shit week so far, wife and I went to have a margarita. I walked into her on the way to our table and removed about ⅓ of my big toenail.

So… not great.
