Note, it has Denuvo DRM. That's a hard pass from me. Capcom has even gone back and added this garbage to past games that lacked it, so I wouldn't trust them.

Oof, annoyingly I didn't notice that.

For hunters who want to keep the characters/palicos they made in one of the betas, the option is at the very bottom of the character/palico creation screens

Reviews aren't great, but they are performance based. Game runs fine for me and I'm having a blast.

Yeeeeah, there's something wrong with this one and it's almost certainly a bug. I have one system where it runs great and another where turning the raytracing from off to max and going from 4K to 720p doesn't change performance at all.

Some settings aren't taking in real time despite seeming to refresh live, but there's something else to it. They are telling people to turn off compatibility mode and try to run the game as administrator, so I wonder if there's some mix of Direct I/O, DRM and in-game bugs causing some hard block to performance on some systems or hardware. Definitely something going on for at least some people.

I can play it on my good PC, so I'm set for now, but I hope they figure it out soon for everybody else.

Sounds like a VRAM problem (as in not enough).

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago

Definitely not. Both of the cards I tested have more than enough, but their behavior is completely different. The game does report on both consumption and requirements for VRAM based on visual settings and claims to have plenty on both.

Plus if that was the case you'd see performance changes when choosing lower settings for texture size, texture filtering and shadow quality, and that's not happening. Digital Foundry ran a check after I posted originally and noticed the issues seem to happen more noticeably when moving the camera quickly, which again points to texture streaming or decompression. That'd make some sense, and it would also explain why the one setting that has a significant impact on performance for me is switching to ultrawide letterboxed but lowering the resolution or increasing upscaling doesn't have the same effect: wider FOV means less streaming less often. Plus it's the first one of these that is fully open world (somehow), so that would also fit.

It may not be that, though. Games are hard, and if they shipped this way it's probably not trivial or hard to fix. We'll see. They dropped a patch today, but it doesn't seem to be targeting this, just some progression bugs.

It's a shame, the game itself is great if you have a PC that plays it well.

I've seen a lot of positive reviews, too! Performance isn't terrible for me, though I haven't started tweaking it yet.
