RULES (updated 01/22/25)

  1. Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling. To be concise, disrespect is defined by escalation.
  2. Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible. You won't be punished for trying.
  3. Avoid controversial topics (politics or societal debates come to mind, though we are not saying not to talk about anything that resembles these). There's a guide in the protocol book offered as a mod model that can be used for that; it's vague until you realize it was made for things like the rule in question. At least four purple answers must apply to a "controversial" message for it to be allowed.
  4. Keep it clean and SFW: No illegal content or anything gross and inappropriate. A rule of thumb is if a recording of a conversation put on another platform would get someone a COPPA violation response, that exact exchange should be avoided when possible.
  5. No solicitation such as ads, promotional content, spam, surveys etc. The chart redirected to above applies to spam material as well, which is one of the reasons its wording is vague, as it applies to a few things. Again, a "spammy" message must be applicable to four purple answers before it's allowed.
  6. Respect privacy as well as truth: Don’t ask for or share any personal information or slander anyone. A rule of thumb is if something is enough info to go by that it "would be a copyright violation if the info was art" as another group put it, or that it alone can be used to narrow someone down to 150 physical humans (Dunbar's Number) or less, it's considered an excess breach of privacy. Slander is defined by intentional utilitarian misguidance at the expense (positive or negative) of a sentient entity. This often links back to or mixes with rule one, which implies, for example, that even something that is true can still amount to what slander is trying to achieve, and that will be looked down upon.

Something you would really like to do or see, that you could reasonably achieve without too much expense or hassle.

One of mine is to combine a weekend of mountain biking with a music festival. I want to wake up early in the morning and ride until my legs are dead, then spend the afternoon and evening eating, drinking, and listening to great music until it's time to go to bed. Then wake up the next morning and do it over again. I have the spot all picked out. One of these summers I will prioritize the time to make it happen.

Do any cities still have Critical Mass rides? I could totally see this guy showing up to one of those.

Doing a hand stand. Never gotten around to it, but it would be nice to do before I die

Become the best around and don't let anything keep me down.

I legitimately just want to keep the house clean.

I want to replace my curtains with sufficiently dense vine plants. Not across the whole house, mind you. Just on the window in my room.

I can learn how to code due to unfortunate circumstances since I have alot of time now. It seems achievable if I let my doctor know I’m mentally struggling some how, but more barriers have been removed for me to study effectively now so I don’t think I need to tell the doc

I’d like to get fired so that I am forced to do something else.

Set up a Matrix homeserver. I have the server, it's got Linux on it already...

I have just never used Ansible, and I'm just s little nervous about exposing it to the internet even though I also have an Ansible Linux hardening playbook I plan to do before the Matrix-docker playbook.

I already got a domain from Njalla and found a ddns (ddclient) that is supposed to work with Njalla for a dynamic IP.

Self hosting is a fun thing to learn about. It is very good that we have good communities to share tips and tricks with too. I am very novice to it myself.

Similar to @[email protected] I want to use an old laptop to create a Jellyfin + arr server.

Also want to build a workbench for myself in the garage.

I could change the outlet on my kitchen counter, it's very old and plugs hang loose

I want to get some of the local magpies to start eating out of my hand by summer time.

I like to do calisthenics, just exercise with your body, and see how much I can do. I am not very fit and often lose conditioning due to work and other interests, but when i get back on it I like to give myself small goals of doing certain amount of reps or running a certain distance or time. You don't need to go all in as if you were a pro athlete either. A small amount of exercise takes you a long way.

Academically I have challenged myself to do a problem a week from some of my old textbooks. Its a low enough bar that I can clear it even when busy.

I want to make my art look like it was rendered in an old 2000's era game. I know that's oddly specific but there's just something about that look I really love, you know how back then the reflections were fake rather than raytraced? I love that look, so computery and oddly charming!

I want to learn to power slide on a longboard.

I want to make a video game. Nothing big or ambitious, just something that makes me happy. I have programming experience, I just can't stop procrastinating...
