Kidney stones have run in my family ever since I could remember, and when I turned 18 I got my first kidney stone. It was absolutely horrible and every year since I've had a kidney stone...the last four I have had to get surgically removed because they are too big too pass and there are too many in my kidney to have that broken down because they will just knock a whole lot more loose. So 3 days ago I got the familiar pain of a kidney stone and started urinating a lot of blood so I rushed the emergency room and told them the usual that I get kidney stones every year the last three up until this point were surgically removed and that the only med that really works to get rid of the pain is morphine they have given me a lot of other meds over the years like toradol, dolottid, oxycodone, anti inflammatory, everything you can think of. Well three days ago I checked in and once again a doctor wanted to try something new and give me tore it all and I told him that it wouldn't work but he did it anyway... It took 4 hours and me vomiting so much that I started vomiting blood before they actually gave me morphine the next day I was to get my stone surgically removed but they couldn't fit me in so they gave me morphine which was great and actually stifled the pain. So the next day I finally got my surgery done and was released to go and pick up morphine from the pharmacy along with some other meds so that way I can combat the pain well when I got there my insurance had lapsed even though I have proof that I paid my premium on the 1st of this month so we had to contest that but unfortunately the medicine from the pharmacy was over $300 so I came back to the hospital and checked back in because I was in extreme pain.... I brought all of my paperwork that says that they went in, put a stent in, but couldn't remove the stone because it was too far back this was yesterday I got surgery... So I checked in today and I told them everything I said the other day and gave them all my paperwork about me having surgery and that I still have a nickel-sized kidney stone Lodge in the tube in between my kidney and my bladder and it hurts really bad... So what is the doctor decide to do? They decide morphine isn't a good fit because it's addictive so instead they give me.. oxycodone... Which makes total sense right?.. so I refuse the oxycodone because not only does it not help me it makes me really dizzy and it doesn't help with the pain at all well because of that the doctors took it personally and three separate doctors came in and told me that if I wouldn't take the pill that they wouldn't give me any other meds so I went back and forth with them telling them I've been doing this for 15 years now had 15 kidney stones and had four surgically removed and I currently have one in between my kidney and my bladder.. so of course they need to take an x-ray even though I just had one done two days ago and of course they confirmed that I have a kidney stone lodged right up against my stent in the tube between my kidney and my bladder so what are they decide to do? They told me that I could either take the oxycodone or I can leave so I decided to leave I asked them to take my IV out so I could go to a different hospital well the nurse who had listened into all of the conversations on my way out decided to tell me and I quote, "It's sad to see someone so addicted to morphine, you should really see someone about it".... Are you kidding me??? I literally just ask for morphine in an IV dose form because it works fast and gives me real relief from the pain! And only when I have kidney stones!... It pissed me off so much I decided to stay instead I took the oxycodone and of course 45 minutes later I'm still in excruciating pain and now I'm vomiting because of pain so what do they do? They say they need to go discuss it and now they've been gone for 45 minutes while I'm sitting here in pain ... Still just sitting here in the hospital now for 5 hours without any relief from the pain... I might as well have just stayed home and laid on the couch it would have been no different... I understand that doctors need to try different things for different people but I've literally been doing this for 15 years all of the other urologists at this hospital know me by name and we have pleasant conversations because they know that morphine is the only thing that helps but apparently this new urologist doesn't know that but is it really appropriate for a nurse to be calling me a morphine addict? And my right to be mildly infuriated?
