Reddit Sub Ban Wave (www.reddit.com)
submitted 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago) by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

Reddit just banned a ton of LGBTQ+ and NSFW subs, I imagine a bunch of people will be heading this way!

Check out the mobile clients that also moved over last time. Boost and Sync are great.

They claim it's an "accident" and unbanned a lot of them. Sure 🙄 They're just testing how submissive their userbase are, lol

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 hours ago

They're letting the gov know, they will comply, with a quick demo.

if it was an accident, that’s almost as bad: either way they’re testing or developed some tool that has grouped lgbt and adult content together

Probably some algorithm that they told "delete anything related to the topic 'transgender', and that algorithm took everything down that it remotely got a hold of, I would suspect

Yeah this, “bug” seems like insurance for when Musk starts attacking Xitter competitors. Now investors can be assured Reddit can ban every controversial subreddit in one sweep.

They're making sure the system works for when they need to hit it for real. Just like all the other social media platforms that "accidentally" censored anything that wasn't pro Trump.

Can we not advertise lemmy.world this time? The entire point is to decentralize so ban waves like this don't affect too many people.

Hello! I'm new to Lemmy, originally during the Reddit exodus when 3rd party apps got shafted (RIP Apollo) I joined kbin but the dev has since gone dark and I unfortunately found myself back on reddit.

Im trans and with this whole NSFW ban and trans subreddits getting banned I'm back.

Does anyone know any good trans specific communities (what are these called here? Sublemmies?) on Lemmy? They don't have to be specific to the lemm.ee instance!

TIA

The two biggest spaces for trans users are lemmy.blahaj.zone and hexbear.net, hexbear is larger but is explicitly Communist/Anarchist, while blahaj is more liberal/progressive.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 16 hours ago

You can find communities here. Check out the communities on lemmy.blahaj.zone or pawb.social . You might find what you're looking for there.

Get Voyager, it’s an app like Apollo was for Reddit.

It has a pretty good community search function that works across instances. You’ll find a lot doing it that way.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 20 hours ago

Im replying from Voyager now and this just straight up feels and looks almost exactly like I remember Apollo. I could cry tears of joy 🥲

[–] [email protected] 1 points 16 hours ago

Anarchist/socialist communities are always pro trans. I joined slrpnk.net because it's got those as well as a focus on sustainable living. Your choice of instance doesn't impact your feed too much.

Didn’t go back to reddit and am not trans but I just wanted say, otherwise your journey has been exactly the same as mine! From Kbin to lemm.ee and RIP apollo indeed. There’s a lot of trans friendly comms and instances in general. 196 may be a familiar name and the blahaj instance in general seems trans friendly. Depends on what type of comms you’re looking for. Check out voyager if you haven’t already, very reminiscent of Apollo. Welcome back.

Ill have to check out voyager! I'm using Sync at the moment since I recognized the name. Thank you for the recommendation!

if they even are aware of Lemmy. from what I've read, Reddit is quick to delete any mentions of it

[–] [email protected] 7 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Tell your friends to tell everyone you know who's LGBT I posted in all my places to tell them all we have lemmy witch is far better. Reddit and block it but can't block others from spreading the Lemmy word

I'm trans and new here! Looking for different trans/LGBTQ communities to follow, any suggestions?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 21 hours ago

Blahaj instance is the place I go to the most for LGBT stuff, don't really have much recommendations as I tend to browse my "all" feed.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 16 hours ago

Resolved because it was a "bug". lol. Most people probably won't switch.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 21 hours ago

Other than just knowing that things continue to decline (everywhere), who cares? I guess I do, cause I'm taking the time to comment. But it's all downhill, everywhere, from here.
