If you're on Jerboa open the image to get the joke...

[–] [email protected] 7 points 12 hours ago

Or enable "auto play gifs" in Jerboa's settings

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 hours ago

[–] [email protected] 6 points 16 hours ago

Huh? Voyager loads it just fine on my pixel fold.

Maybe it's a hardware-limitation?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 19 hours ago

Auto-loading GIFs is a setting in Jerboa, might be the same for Voyager.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

It also loaded automatically for me on Voyager. Maybe it's an instance thing?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

Auto loaded for me on Boost.

If I don’t tap the image, it doesn’t animate.

[–] prettybunnys 2 points 19 hours ago

The thumbnail was animated in voyager on iOS for me.

Work had me procure flips and folds for QA. I got to briefly and test drive them before I handed them over.

I expected to flip to be useless in the fold to be drool worthy for having a mini tablet sized screen

I carried the fold for a few days, having screens even in candy bar mode meant that I was constantly worried about scratching it and it just had fingerprints everywhere all the time

It was uncomfortable to unfold it, and the aspect ratio was wrong for a lot of applications and websites.

The flip however folded up into a clamshell and fit right in my pocket like old days.

For the price, there's no way in hell I'm buying either but... Having a cell phone easily fitting in a pocket's pretty fucking cool

For the price

The Motorola razr is about the same price as any non flippable flagship

I only know one guy who has a folding smartphone. It's broken now. What a stupid idea.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I've had my fold3 over three years now. Once a year the inner screen protector has to replaced, that costs something like 25 euros. Apart that, the concept is great and I've had zero probs. As my phone is already like 4 years old overall, the camera on it not that great nowadays, especially in low light.

[–] Eyedust 2 points 12 hours ago

This. I rocked a 3 for 3 years. My inner screen peeled year one. Being a dummy, I thought it would be fine. The inner crease started to peel just a tiny bit after year 2. It was small and still worked great. I got full trade in value for it and my Fold 6 has 0 problems.

Unless you get a factory defect, folding phones are amazing if you're gentle with opening and closing them

[–] [email protected] 2 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Love my z fold 6. Getting the first foldable phone....yeah that would be questionable but they worked it out I think. I love mine.

[–] mnemonicmonkeys 2 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

I like my zfold 6, but the main downside is that it's made by Samsung. They've switched to a locked down bootloader of the past few years and you can't get GrapheneOS or LineageOS to run on it.

Because of this, once software updates stop being supported by Samsung, the phone increasingly become a security liability. Meanwhile my old S10e does support these 3rd party OS's so I can theoretically keep using it safely for several more years

[–] [email protected] 63 points 1 day ago

I've had mine for about 4 years now, I love it.

I've had the inside screen replaced once now under extended warranty. I'd still buy another folding.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Now you know two who've had one. I'm typing on my Galaxy Z Flip3, which I bought in December 2021. No problems yet.

  1. Pixel fold here. Entire last week I opened it once.

Lol, I'm on my second one, neither broke/is broken

It's not a stupid idea, being able to have a small tablet whenever you need is amazing

It's the only tablet I actually use instead of just collecting dust within a couple weeks of getting it because it's never where I am when I need it the most.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 18 hours ago

At about a year and a half now with my Z Fold 5. Echoing many of the others here. Still works great, opens flat, and I never want go back to a non-foldable.

[–] Alk 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's a great idea. I have the Motorola razr 2024 and it's a horizontal hinge like a normal flip phone instead of a vertical one. It's compact and I can use 100% of the smart phone features without even opening it. It's the ultra compact smart phone I've been searching for for years.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 20 hours ago

This seems like the better direction. I'd rather have a phone that turns into a pocket watch than a tablet that turns into a phone.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 day ago

Had it for 4 years its the best

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 day ago

I'm on my second, first Fold 3 and now Fold 5. Assuming they continue to gain traction, I don't know if I'll ever go back to a non-foldable.

The only issue I've had is the internal screen protector (installed in factory by Samsung) started to peel up in the middle/fold crease. Got it replaced for free under warranty.

I'll probably use this one until it starts to show wear and look into a different brand to get away from Samsung. My current plans are something like a OnePlus Open or Pixel fold and use Lineage or Graphene.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

I love my Z Fold 4. Never going back to a non-foldable ever again. It's so convenient being able to view websites in desktop mode without scrolling. Or view restaurant menus full-size. Or show a video or picture to someone on a giant screen that fits into my pocket. The possibilities are endless.

[–] mnemonicmonkeys 1 points 3 hours ago

My only point of contention with unfolding the phone to browse the internet is that you have all tabs in front of you, not just the tabs in the tab group. Granted, this is mainly an issue for Chromium browsers, but it's still annoying

[–] [email protected] 2 points 18 hours ago

Fold4 here. Ditto. Awesome for web browsing, menus and the like.

Its a pocket tablet. I most often open mine to play games or read manga.

My wife has a z flip 6 and it works great. She had a 3 previously and never had any issues either

I know one guy who has a folding smartphone and it's not broken now. Where does that leave us

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 day ago

Wife has one and she loves it.

[–] skulblaka 10 points 1 day ago

I bought a 2 year old refurbished Z Fold 2 two years ago and it's still going strong. If you treat your device with respect you'll have no trouble.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 20 hours ago

I have a pixel fold. You know two people now.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago

I think it's a fantastic idea. Wanted one since Samsung showed an S4(?) clamshell.

But they still have too many issues for me. I look forward to when it's a standard thing, so the OS and apps work correctly.

I've broken so many of those old flip phones. the hinges were always some flimsy cheaply made shit causing the phone to break in two.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

My Nextel i930 lasted forever. Still in a drawer somewhere

[–] Grass 4 points 21 hours ago

I had one moto razr and I did phone flip tricks with it all the time. If it didn't get dropped into the depths of the inlet while paddle boarding I'd still be fiddling with it

[–] [email protected] 2 points 19 hours ago

I had a couple LG flippers. They held up for me.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 19 hours ago

Yes, but at what cost. Oh, $1500USD more than the flip phone. I mean, that's like totally affordable.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago

A Terminator model T-1000 could fold, too.
