Got to see a large pod of dolphins in Wellington a few days ago unexpectedly. First time seeing dolphins outside of captivity and have to say, it was a pretty magical experience.

That's awesome!

It's a strange thing that it's relatively common for dolphins or whales to come into the harbour, yet it's very easy to never see them. You have to be looking at the right place at the right time, and most of us don't spend much time within view of the water let alone actively watching.

I spent a couple of years in an office overlooking the harbour, there were dolphins or whales in the harbour about half a dozen times that I knew of, but I only one saw a whale and only once very briefly. Never saw dolphins from that view.

Reminds me of going on a drive with my mum quite a few years back to see some whales up close on Tamaki drive in Auckland near Mission bay.

She loves whales and dolphins, and it's a good memory I have sometimes.

Oh my god. Just found a roastery based in Hamilton that has beans for upto $65 for a 200g bag! Holey smokes. Wonder if there's actually a big difference or not.

Haha wow! The only time I've seen prices like that is the NZ grown one at $55 per 180g.

Hey sorry if anyone is getting DM spam. A flaw in Lemmy is that there isn't a way I know of to combat it. I can ban the account but it doesn't remove any DM already sent, and they seem to be creating new accounts all the time.

Hopefully there aren't too many lemmy.nz users seeing it. I just ran a database query to try to clear them out and it removed 13 (so if you got a notification of a new message and then didn't see any, this will be why). No doubt they will be back with a new account soon enough. Unfortunately the automod doesn't support scanning DMs.

In case there was any doubt, there is no Nicole, please don't send any money 🙂
