what are they for?
Scientific equipment. Connect a bunch of electrodes into the dirt, inject some current, monitor voltage changes on other electrodes, come up with model for electrical properties in the ground. Useful for designing grounding for substations, or depth to bedrock, or water table exploration...
My educated guess is that it's for welding.
I've always hated working with 300 series stainless.
