What is it? Never used twitter
It was a way to view multiple lists at once, your home feed, various accounts, hashtags, your mentions, notifications, DMs, etc. Super useful. I stopped using Twitter altogether when they updated it earlier this year and made it significantly clunkier UX + promised to make it paid.
It was the only way to use Twitter for me. Custom feeds for lists etc, chronological, and all on one page. Such great information density.
I would have gladly paid to use it before the new ownership too. Then again the new update for it added a couple things I hate so that makes it easier to move on too.
A better frontend, basically.
It guaranteed chronological timeline and multiple columns.
The only way to use Twitter for work
Basically now you have to choose between quitting or giving money to the biggest asshole on the planet
I chose quit and moves to Mastodon and Lemmy. Been happier ever since.
what the fuck was he thinking with the rebrand? not only did he throw all of the brand identity that twitter had, x. com and especially x premium don't exactly sound like social media sites if y'all get what im sayin
His goal is apparently to eventually make X an “everything” tool. It’s stupid and will flop.
There is a non-zero chance X merges with Reddit based on Steve Huffman's public swooning over Elon Musk vision.
If it doesn't flop, humanity will.
He has all the money and capital in the world to force his dumb idea in to prominence.
Just look at VR or the windows phone and you can see that money only keeps something in the conversation, it doesnt lead to adoption.
So sure, he can keep people talking by burning billions, but thats about it
Makes me think of the Privateer / Elite style X spaceship games, but that's probably because of my personal bias towards games like that.
Everyone else would probably think Porn or the X-games first.
People seem to think he’s trying to make X successful. That’s not the point at all. He’s trying to convert what was once a useful commons into a smoking hole full of trolls and conspiracy theories. There’s just no other reasonable way to look at his actions.
I've been saying this for awhile now. It's the only reason he made that very public offer at the specific price he put out. He knew he couldn't back out. He knew the line he was crossing so it wasn't a spur of the moment purchase. He got Larry Ellison and a Saudi Investor involved. They didn't all have the same crazy idea. These guys know they're on the hook to the bank for whatever but between the 3 of them they'll cover the losses and this big hub of rumor/news sharing will die. and they can stay mostly unharmed.
If you're still on Twitter, you're part of the problem.
Bluesky already has a third-party client that can replicate TweetDeck well enough. Mastodon and Misskey also have a "deck" UI.
Still better than how that alien logo'd Lemmy clone handled third-party clients.

X has finally formally announced X Pro, two days after TweetDeck users started noticing the new branding and paywall.
Shouldn't this be illegal? Implementing a sudden paywall on a previously free feature without prior warning. LMAO
It's not illegal if it's part of their Terms of Service, which we all agreed to.
