Honestly? I feel like this could be both construed as a memorial OR a celebration. Perhaps an artist could create a sculpture to honor those hanged.

It is interesting to see a memorial with no discernable editorial angle. I would be willing to bet that taking down such a memorial was based on a desire to hide history rather than any sort of sensitivity to victims.

it was more the latter, actually. requests by and pressure from the native american community got the old marker removed in the early 70s.
