The cost of GPUs is becoming increasingly expensive, and I foresee this trend continuing for the next few generations.

Generally interested, would it be more economical, from a performance-to-price ratio, to buy slightly cheaper GPUs and upgrade more often, or to spend the most you can now and use it for as long as possible?

I am leaning toward the latter, so I can avoid the upgrade cycle and research into parts performance ratios for at least a few years, but I am interested in your opinions.
