Aren't you afraid they'll spit in your Steam Deck?

In Australia and NZ, the consumer protection laws are fantastic. Dead On Arrival products are not the consumer's problem and the business would need to resolve it, which includes following it up with their shipment service if they tried that angle. All the while OP is entitled to another unit "within reasonable time", generally within 28 days as a guideline before cases can be made.

Obviously this doesn't apply to overseas orders, but any business conducting itself in ANZ is subject to the Consumer Laws.

Pretty sure they're just making a joke like how if you're rude to your server or don't tip they'll spit on your food. Kind of an old (US specific probably) trope

[–] [email protected] 61 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This is fucking ridiculous. Who even would you be tipping in this situation? Guarantee that none of the actual workers see a penny of these "tips", and that it all goes back into corporate budgets.

Doesn't hurt to ask. It cost them almost nothing to put that there so it will quickly pay for itself.

Can you put in a negative amount?

[–] [email protected] 23 points 1 year ago

Let me ask Little Bobby Tables

I tried to buy some shoes online, was told they were on back order (which is fine), then they asked for a tip. I wrote a complaint saying "you want a tip for a service you literally haven't provided on an online store with zero staff interaction". I ranted and raved about how, while the tip is optional, asking for it is like a multi-million dollar company rattling a can at me for spare change. They replied with "the tip is optional". Dogs.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Good for you, hopefully they get a lot of feedback like that and give up on the idea.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Should have cancelled the order and gone elsewhere.

[–] [email protected] 35 points 1 year ago

Show your support for the team

Um, the team's employer is the one who should be supporting them. Wtf.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago

You mean you don't tip your landlords?

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago

The balls on some of these people 😡

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You're showing your support by giving them business. That's more than enough when the alternative is your business elsewhere to a competitor. They should be so grateful, especially in these economical times.

It's absolutely 100% your civic duty to immediately leave as many negative reviews everywhere you can for cunts that do shit like this, or it'll spread like Chlamydia

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

Fuck that noise.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Where did you order? Why is it so expensive?

[–] [email protected] 34 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That's in New Zealand dollar. Equivalent to about 700 USD.

Still expensive but not that bad. We in AU & NZ are used to getting price gouged because we have no other choice :(

The worst are digital goods like games. Even after currency conversion and taxes are accounted for, nobody could explain the extra 10-20% a.k.a. the "f you" tax.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Yes, that has annoyed me for many, many years. They took the excuse that because NZ is geographically isolated, it cost more to distribute physical products here. Then when Steam came along, the publishers still charged more. Fucking weasels.

[–] reev 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's like 718 USD, probably shipping and VAT or something.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Huh, US$718 converted is NZ$1211. Adding GST makes it NZ$1395.

That's more than this site is charging. And on par with MightyApe's prices. Perhaps they're showing exclusive prices, or they're not GST registered yet.

[–] reev 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Nah I converted the listed price to USD :)

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Oh that makes sense.

Pricing appears to be US$529 (NZ$830 converted), so at least NZ$1027 including gst. Of course not counting reseller scalp/shipping/markup.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Can get it from MightyApe as well. Though $200 more. But then again, mine came with a Samsung fast charger to provide the NZ plug. I trust MightyApe a lot more than some unknown other site that asks for tips.

Steamdeck is awesome, well worth it to me as I have played more on the couch than I'd ever do at a chair and desk.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah, long time computer gamer going back to ZX Spectrum and Amiga days. But I cannot sit in front of the same computer I've just spent the day working at. The Steam Deck is the way...

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's a default with the software, same payment thing is all over the USA.

We need our own software.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ah really? It's just Shopify isn't it? And it's opt-in?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Not totally sure what brand, tbh

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Food delivery apps ask here for the delivery agent instead of paying them decently.

I’ve started giving 1 star review for anyplace that asks for tip for preorder before I’ve even received anything or for drive thru. Please join me… They use shame and guilt as a weapon. We can also.
