I understand they are trying to get minimum wage raised, but I find it kind of fucked up that they are setting minimum wages based on job/field. Oh well you respect this job more, sure let's vote for them to get paid better, those people, eww I don't respect them, let's let their minimum wage stay. That's bullshit. It should be a flat minimum for all fields, and then unions/workers can fight to achieve higher wages within their field. The average person knows fuck all of what most job responsibilities people have.

All people deserve the fruits of their labour. But not all labour bears fruit worth harvesting.

And I say that fully in support of the idea that unchecked capitalism doesn't have all the solutions to properly recognizing the value of toilet plunging.

Honestly, UBI probably cuts through all those problems, including the elephant in the room which is the march of automation continues to devalue more and more and more labour.

That's not what a minimum wage even is. The US job market is being completely fucked up, as usual.

But then the locals have been brainwashed into finding it normal.

Exactly, I was referencing this part of the article: "The current minimum wage rates are $16 per hour for most workers and $20 in the fast-food sector. The health care sector will eventually see its minimum wage reach $25 per hour under a law that Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom signed last year and took effect in October."

It's not minimum wage, it's asinine. You'll clearly overlook positions and corporations will change job titles to make them fall into other categories.

I know you work in the health care sector but most of your job is going to be promoting the use of these drugs.. your job title actually falls under marketing now. Sorry we'll give you $16 an hour. (Joking example of course, but I'm sure, but if you can pay your employees 30%+ less under a different title ... Companies will look for ways to make it happen.

Interesting how people claim the USA is the "richest" nation in the world, but is unable to pay a minimum wage that reflects that. $22/hr would be a better place to start, and that's without tips, for all industries.

Yes, because it was junk written by a single millionaire with the wages not far off from what is already on the books.

Yes the general public had to vote on this, and despite electing Democrats we can't seem to get enough of us behind progressive bills.
