Do you think it would be possible (and how could we get it done?) to unite millions of people who collectively agree to target an individual company for a short time unless the company meets our demands? For example, for the month of March we all pledge to not purchase anything from Apple unless Apple does XYZ... Either they do it, or we tank their stock... Move on to the next company target

Did it?

It looked like a one day wonder. The parent company is still around and Bud Light is still everywhere I look.

Sales of Bud Light and Budweiser dropped 24.6% and 9.2%, respectively, for the four weeks ended June 3 from a year earlier, while Modelo Especial sales rose 10.2%, according to consulting company Bump Williams, which sources data from NielsenIQ.

I never said they were bankrupt. It hurt their sales, which is what OPs post is about to my understanding.

Going from number 1 to number 3 is a big deal.

They don't necessarily need to go away, they just need to stop fucking with elections (and a few other things)

Look up Right Wing homophobe Jerry Falwell.

He decided that he wanted to take control of the GOP. He created the Moral Majority, a pressure group that had a simple way to overcome the big shots.

There are local clubs that decide local issues; who is going to be the county clerk? and things like that. Anytime there was a meeting the MMs would show up with enough people to make sure their position won. Often this was as simple as bringing one or two dozen folks.

County clerks eventually lead to Congress people, and then Governors and Senators.

Look at AOC. She beat an entrenched NYC Dem in her primary.

It's easier to organize a few thousand people to show up on a monthly basis the4n to get millions to do something for a year.

When people organized against Bud, the stock price took a hit, they are no longer the #1 beer brand in the US having been supplanted by Modelo.

Oh nice... I want to use the boycott as a threat though... Like, did Bud light actually change anything to prevent the boycott?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Nope. They just took the hit.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

Hmmm... Yeah... I'd want to do a "change XYZ or else" kinda campaign

Conservatives and complacent people use Apple products. Nice idea though.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Sure, but i bet the news of a 10 million people saying they're going to boycott would still hurt their stock price

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I doubt it but I don't really care since I already own zero Apple products.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm not sure you understand the assignment

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Really? How can I MORE boycott them than I already do?

I don't think you actually understand just how much money Apple has. They shrug off billion dollar fines like ducks shrug off water. I think the idea only works if it's a significant portion of their revenues.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's not about the actual boycott... It's about the threat of millions of people boycotting dropping the stock price... And Apple was just an example, could start with an easier target

Well voting with your dollars is about all you have to work with really.

Look up Right Wing bigot and homphobe Jerry Falwell.

Back in the day he decided that he wanted to take over the Republican Party. He had a simple plan. He found every local GOP clubhouse and made sure to show up every time there was a vote. Deciding who was going to be the next county clerk? If there'd been twenty people at the last meeting the Falwell people would arrive with fifty. In 1976 Nelson Rockefeller of NY was a popular choice to be Ford's VP. By 1980 he was a dirty Liberal.

Do you know where your local Dem clubhouse is? How it works? Who is in charge?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Not yet... Recently moved to a new state, but back in my old state I was active with my county Dems and started my own Dems in my small town... I'll get back to it here soon
