2. No bigotry or harassment, be civil

No bigotry, hardline stance. Try not to get too heated when entering into a discussion or debate.

4. Stay on-topic; no memes, funny videos, giveaways, reposts, or low-effort posts

This community is mostly for discussion and news. Remember to search for the thing you're submitting before posting to see if it's already been posted.

We want to keep the quality of posts high. Therefore, memes, funny videos, low-effort posts and reposts are not allowed. We prohibit giveaways because we cannot be sure that the person holding the giveaway will actually do what they promise.

5. Mark Spoilers and NSFW

Make sure to mark your stuff or it may be removed.

No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.

6. No linking to piracy

Don't share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine.

We don't want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

I know that remakes and remasters are contentious, but let's pretend whatever game in question you're thinking of is handled with the utmost care by your favourite devs and they absolutely nail it.

Mine would be Shadow of Memories (called Shadow of Destiny in North America). It's legitimately one of my favourite games of all time but it kinda flew under the radar and I haven't met many people who know of it let alone played it. Seeing it get modern graphics, maybe some expanded mechanics, would be soooo cool.

Ultima 7 I guess. I never got into it but I keep hearing his great it was. Final Fantasy VI, because it was my first and therefore the best. Space Crusade because it was just that fun.

Alister McGee's Alice. Pretty much a horror version of Alice in Wonderland, and it's a platformer with trippy graphics. I thought it was pretty fun.

Heroes of might and magic 3, but I feel like it might not have the same appeal if it did happen. Happy to be proven wrong, of course 🙂

Deus Ex, if only to make it less ugly. Keep all the working parts as close as possible - same ridiculous voice acting, same level design and AI, same 1990s conspiracy stew. Just modernize all the scenery, models, and animation. Okay sure fine and officiate all the balance tweaks and cut-content restoration in Shifter.

Basically, the original game was fine, warts and all, and it still kinda-sorta runs. But it's a vision of the 2050s from the era of The Matrix and yet the most dated part is the first Unreal engine. A lot of immersive-sim games were just fugly. Even if you had to embrace a sort of cartoony aesthetic to get away with the mechanical choices and deliberate camp, so be it. Give people a version that's at least closer to HL2 than HL1.

DXU24 is an excellent "source port" kind of fan mod, but it only pretties up existing content. You're still looking at environments comprised of several polygons.

Starsiege: Tribes, or Alien vs Predator (2).

Both had degrees of movement that I absolutely loved (Alien wall climbing in AvP).

I understand that I should probably check out Titanfall 2 for similar reasons.
