I learned about these neat USB boards. I think I will use one in 9V mode for the Atari 7800 as an alternative means of powering it. It might fit in one of the existing cutouts.

Just search aliexpress for "pd trigger" and they're pretty common.

You can also get usb c to DC barrel jack cables, that come preconfigured for various voltages.

I actually used the DC barrel jack one to power some fans. Genuinely think that I was using too many words while searching aliexpress.

Found them now, guess they'll come in handy soon, thanks!

@[email protected] Just search eBay... They are really straight forward. Bridge the solder jumpers, measure the pads to see if it worked -> done! :)

I don't understand the reference between VBUS and VDD. Is anyone willing to explain how the risk of putting direct PSU voltage into the output device is avoided?

This is great. Even just soldering on a barrel jack and shrink tubing the whole thing would be a massive improvement.

All the old Power Supplies from the 90s and earlier made power really inefficiently and their failure modes can be... bad

Putting a GOOD USB-C charger onto these old systems is an elegant solution!

They sell premade usb c to DC cables in a variety of voltages.

@[email protected] Whoa, this makes turning old things to USB PD powered dead easy!

@[email protected] Neat. Seems like this could be useful for quite a lot of things.
