German had reported on alleged mismanagement in Telles’ office. When Telles later lost a reelection bid in 2022, he posted a letter online in which he attacked the Review-Journal for its coverage.

They argued that he has no motive. Revenge is a motive.

So there are known cases in the U.S. of elected officials murdering non-American journalists?

I’m assuming the phrasing restricts it to cases that were in U.S. jurisdiction and that would be legally considered murder.
